Are you entering the Competition? -So many good recipes, you could beat the French hands down!! Tarte Tatin or 'Flan' seems to be their limited choice. I am making Pumpkin Pies with a Mincemeat topping for the Xmas Market as this part of Normandy are keen on celebrating Thanksgiving too. Went well last year. Been told to set off 2hrs early to beat road blocks Saturday (Only 40mins away normally! -What would you do with Green Pumpkins? (Not Ripe) seems a shame to throw them away. I agree about the Crosnes. Ate them last week -horrible!!! but very pretty -snow white curly pearls -Will look up Chinese recipes before giving up on them all together. Clarity of sky superb last night -Loads of stars. Hope you get to your Dance (What are you learning Latin/Line or Jive are popular here)?

Put them somewhere warm and dry to ripen or make chutney?   Can't think of any oriental recipe that would be good for those Chinese artichokes.  Too small and fiddly to mess with too.

Not making a tart.  I'm not good with pastry, even when bought ready made and rolled, and they've specified fruit tarts so I'll go and see what they do.

Rather than sitting in queues at known blockage points can you work out a rural route off the main roads?

Clear skies here too and a great view of moon rise thru our east facing living room window.  Supposed to be having storms and heavy rain at the mo but they've all slipped up the coast to Brittany and we have bright sun.   Cold tho.

Yes, freezing Not sure I want to rescue dahlias! -O/H used GPS really successfully, but not easy if you don't know area that well as still can return to blockage!. Old fashioned map reading works best, but useless in the dark even with torch! Good luck! Mug of tea then The Archers then dahlias here I come!

I've noted the villages I need to head for and will feed the satnav the names one at a time to keep it on the right track.   OH not so clever at map reading......  According to the news the police/gendarmes have been clearing the protestors in a Roche today but not worth risking problems and being late for a one hour class.

My dahlias will have to wait till Wednesday next week.   Busy on Monday and on Tuesday we're of fto play Scrabble with students from a Lycée in La Roche and I have a cake to make for them in the morning so will need clean hands.

Mission accomplished -Dahlias in except one I've just spotted!! Will have wait for tomorrow. Hope you accomplish your Dancing Mission tonight! Scrabble sounds great! I really admire you if it is in French. Speaking easy, writing horrible and telephone a nightmare!! Fleeced up salads. New Gardening Magazine just arrived. Another mug of tea is called for and a good read!!

Scrabble in English to help the students learn.  Everything else I do in French.   I can cope with French on the phone if it's someone or something I know but when I get people trying to sell me stuff or explain something technical or they have a strong accent I'm lost if they speak too quickly.

Writing is OK as I have time to think about it so make fewer grammatical errors than when speaking.  The main thing is to have a go and be understood.  I have come here with lots of "belgicismes" too which the patchwork ladies and dance colleagues find very amusing.   If I don't know the correct word for something I just ask them to excuse the franglais and then they are fine.

Joined a French Lunar Gardening Forum and that's great, plus local BIOD Club very good.-I find they speak too fast on the phone because they know I am fluent, but they rarely say who they are. and it is only when I have finished the call that I think -Who was that!!
Have a great evening and don't get lost!!

7,101 protests yesterday and over 200 deaths by being hit by vehicules apparently.
It's not that bad, although it's bad enough with current reports of 1 death, another near-death, over 500 injured, including 47 seriously wounded.
Anyway, as I don't have anywhere special to go I just stay at home and wait. But as always in such circumstances it makes me angry that some people pretend to defend my rights by blocking my freedom of movement.
You are invited to a virtual visit of my garden (in English or in French).

Everyone at dance class agrees with you Papi Jo.  They don't like the blockages, don't like the pollution from the idling vehicles and the bonfires and certainly don't like the manner of the protest or the drinking.    Most don't even sympathise with them because taxes have to be raised somehow.   Could be fairer, could be more equally levied amongst the richer end of society but services have to be paid for.

There were still protesters at the main site in La Roche tonight but they're not blocking the road any more.   Good.    Might be interesting in Paris tomorrow.

I have just learned that tonight's full moon is called a frost moon or a beaver moon.   Never heard that before.
