The pink gooseberries might be a cooking variety. I picked aload of gooseberries from the bush in the back garden yesterday and stewed them down with a little sugar...ever so nice as a filing in pancakes with ice cream. They also go well, after stewing,  in  smoothie's with strawberries.

Still way behind here, not much ready to harvest. The first lot of pea's and dwarf french beans are beginning to flower. Chard is ready to start picking leaves off. Swede leaves are riddled with holes but you can see the swede developing now. Red lettuce has also started to grow, slugs haven't found them yet image.

Planted out spinach and bulb fennel today after watering stuff in the GH.

Had the female equivalent of "Man Flu" over the last 4 days, so only went up yesterday to do a bit of weeding. Lots more people on their plots working.  Picked more beetroot, its growing well. Picked some broad beans, dont think i will bother with them again, as not that keen on them image Peas and french beans not ready yet, but did get a punnet of gooseberries, so will stew them with some sweetener and have with yogurt.

I cant believe I have had this plot for just over 1 year, its looking amazing now, just goes to show, you get out what you put in,  image

    Hello GWRS

I picked some broad beans the other day and tonight for dinner thought they were ok in taste grown Bunyards exhibition variety

Been to the allotment doing lots of digging on the trial area taking a while as more like whacking the soil and a spade in depth and more in some areas - supper hot day today

finding lots of bits of glass and some rubbish, found a big bit of carpet in a different area under the soil and still a big bit of carpet in the soil too hard to get out needs more digging

Got given some swede plantlets from a different neighbour so got them planted out and netted and got more cabbage given yesterday as NDN had too many and they needed planting the others I planted have been nibble at they said birds like to do that and the slugs also got a free bit of net to help the plants

Went to the plot to water plants in the GH today, it's been really hot, what a difference warm weather makes, everything is now growing much quicker. Chillies and peppers have flowers on and there are some green toms. No flowers on cues yet.

Leeks are almost ready to be moved into their final spot.

I've not been able to do alot of digging on account of my back but have kept the weeds down at the top of the plot by strimming, would really recommend a petrol strimmer. They can be expensive but I got mine half price, I think just after Christmas, it's light weight and takes about 10mins to keep on top of the weeds on the uncultivated part of the plot and strim a grass path I grew.

Amazing how things have come on , a bit of sun and rain image

dug up some potatoes , picked broad beans , broccoli , peas , strawberries gone mad , OH going to make strawberry jam at weekend , raspberries about ready

Pumpkins and squash don't look to good , not really grown , don't known why ?image

The best crop is the number of weeds !! image

Got some coffee grounds so put them in the compost bin

looks like next few weeks it is the garden and allottment , need to tidy up before next holiday image

I picked off the last of the gooseberries yesterday, probably about 10lb in total from that picking, I haven't weighed them yet. I struggled with the heat yesterday so was only there for a couple of hours. I went back in the evening to water. Luckily, my chicken plot is shaded in the evening. My poor girls aren't liking this heat either image

Bought a cheap sun umbrella for the allottment , great investment and surprising how often I use it

don't get any shade from shed until early evening

Went to the allotment yesterday really hot so got there earlier to do digging took longer than expected was there till 3 ish,  had to have a few breaks as felt sick from the heat - lucky we took the parasol from home so could go and sit under that for a rest parasol leaning sideways as no stand for it

finally managed to get the 3 metres dug at last,  just the sorting of soil and rubbish to go - then putting the soil back in the hole and then the best bit planting

Having a rest now for a few days from the allotment plot as need to recover from all the digging - so will be able to do light tasks at home

Also yesterday we managed to get a few part pallets for free local to us on the way home which could be a possible fence along the front of the plot and may be able to get more from them as still building bits

GWRS need umbrella no shade on my plot

Zoomer44 sounds good with your strimmer, Lidl have got one in stores from today

Fruitcake think on youtube someone had chicken with sun heat stroke off there food not looking great, they had advice to every day to get a bucket of water to dunk them in there for 3 minutes which cools there temp down not sure if it was twice a day

Far too hot yesterday, so went down to Aldi's to enjoy their air conditioning for a bit, felt like I had just got off a plane and landed in a foreign country when i wheeled my trolley outsideimage

Went up for  a short spell in the evening to water the tomatoes . All have flowers on but no fruit yet. Strawberries are bit on the lean side, think I will move them all this winter and re plant where they are not so shaded by other plants as all the other plots are having a bumper season. Made a Greek feta cheese and home grown spinach pie with filo pastry, good way of using up a glut of spinach!,and its very tastyimage

Perhaps chickens need a paddling pool!
