I've asparagus roots on order from Kings, expect them to arrive in March
Been checking the weather for the weekend and it's improving daily, from sleet to light rain so hopefully the forcast will be even better by Saturday...I do have some under cover jobs to do like potting up an extra lot of onion sets bought in the Autumn and some shallots which are looking a little sad
It's not advisable to dig when the ground is really wet but I've found dock/dandilion roots come up so much easier, so might start to tackle the top of the plot which is just covered with black plastic.
Zoomer had Aspagus roots from Kings 2 years ago , they all took , best of look with them , very pleased
Yes weeds seem to been growing , will need to do some serious weeding soon
Has been to allotment this afternoon for a couple of hours , had a good burn up , took clouche off other Broad Beans as they where to big and staked them
Hoping to go up on Sunday to do some fence repairing due to wind damage
Ginagibbs thanks for posting Zoomer44 pictures, your plot looks really good nice lot of colour
Zoomer44 your plot looks amazing really like your layout and the little pallet fences near your paths, still a good lot growing for winter, great thanks for the pictures - how long have you had your plot now?
Thank you ginagibbs Your plot is looking pretty good too,and what a handsome pooch I'm hoping to plant more flowers this year, was thinking a long bed of flowers to cut. What are your white one's called?
Gg-I got the bottom half Aug 2014, top half Oct 2014. You couldn't see onto the plot more than 3ft, the weeds, brambles and over grown bushes were as tall as the poles in the top picture. These pics were taken Oct/Nov, last year.
Thats OK Zoomer, the picture upload was working for a change! The white flowers are some sort of Margerite, they do get quite large and are not easy to move once established. I also have Evening primrose, holy hocks and fox glove and loads of Marigolds. Well done for getting your plot sorted so quickly, mine was knee high in grass when i took it over in 2014, but I only have a half plot.
Have a good weekend, lets hope the weather is better!
Hello , got up there yesterday for couple of hours , the plot next door got a polly tunnel from Amozen and put it up last Saturday , unfortunately it looks like the wind has wrecked it , shame
It can be a windy site
Hoping to get up there tommorow but depends on weather
Ginagibbs - I started, with half a plot in another part of the allotments but gave that one up when the current one became vacant because I wanted more room to grow fruit.I've tried to make it less labour intensive by planting alot of periennial veg/fruit like globe artichokes, fruit bushes, strawberries, herbs, fruit tree's and rubarb.
On the subject of fruit - Aldi will have friut tree's on sale from Thursday, only £3.49, apple, pear and plum.
Went to the plot this morning to do a few jobs and picked some kale, it was suprisingly tender, was expecting it to be as tough as old boots after the frost and sleet. What an under rated vegtable, will be growing more this year.
