  • Hello, haven't been to the plot due to the weather but hope to get there fri and do some more digging and weeding. Once I have created the beds, I'll take some of the old compost from the pots and mix it in.

GardenGirl- I said to the lady at the council that I have going to build a wigwam to grow runner beans but it will also but for the boys to play in. I also I said I will be growing beans, peas, flowers, sweetcorn, pumpkins, pots, butternut squash, herbs, onions, leeks. I said about how I will tackle weed pile.

The fencing is coming down in our garden on ourside so will need to sort that out and will create a pallet fence, so quite a bit to do.

  • Just had a look at your youtube video GG, you certainly have  a good stack of pallets!!image

Missed out on going to the plot on Sunday as it was very wet here. Popped in last night as I was walking my dogs in that direction and picked some spinach and kale for  supper. The street lights in the road above the site gives good light this time of year so I dont need a torch. I have'nt picked any of my sprouts yet so dont know if they are any good, still got loads of parsnips, some chard, beetroots, Jerusalem artichokes and endive to tide me over. Hope its not too wet again tomorrow as its my day off, I suppose Ishould be doing my Christmas shopping!!!image

  • Ginagibbs I have subscribed to you in case you add photos or do a video - lots of pallets still want more well the long planks for the shed, the ones under the black sheet are for the shed and the ones under the blue tarpaulins are for the fence

Is handy having street light as the path along the end of the my plot has them it lights up a bit of the plot

What does kale grow like is it where you eat the leaves or are there stalks?

Going to go check on the plot today after all that windy weather hope not too much stuff blown around, then Friday meant to be a good day so will go and do more digging

  • Hi Garden Girl, thanks, I liked your video. Should do one of my plot one day when the weather is good!.

Kale is ok, only eat the leaves not the stalk, its supposed to be very good for you. It grows same as cabbage.image

Hello , o/h treats Kale the same as spinach , very nice image

  • Had a pop to the allotment plot had to cover over the pallets most things were ok, noticed some fencing and the fruit cage has gone on the plot behind me so it could be a newbie

The plot behind a few weeks ago when I was given permission to get the apple tree and anything else so went with the fire bin as well - the people giving up the plot wanted to come back and get the cherry tree as she really wanted it and a few other fruit bits so were potted up near shed

feel like scroungers were around a plot few away from mine with the chairman on, I when eating lunch in the car  suddenly notice the tree and fruit bits on there plot thought what a cheek - they were still on their plot today so maybe the plot holders did not come back for them shame after digging bits up and I guess time ran out,  it would of been nice of the other plot holders to leave them for the newbies

How do you cook kale?  not sure if the plants I was given the second time by the same person as my cabbages look nibbled at are kale will have to take a pic and show you when I go again

I steam kale or cook like other veg in water. Season and toss in butter.

Vacating plot holders are given 28 days to take what they want and unless they give you something other plot holders aren't allowed on their plot. What's left is for the new plot holders, it seems to work well.
  • Thanks that sound easy enough to do,  it has been roughly 3 weeks I think, that is what it says in the rules they are not allowed onto another plot with out permission or to take things

not sure how long you have to give up a plot  probably the same
