Quite a duckpond on the patio this morning which is not draining away all that quickly so we must have had some very heavy rain while I was asleep. Forecast is for a dry day so weeding should be very easy after such a downpour. I bet a lot of bonfires have been soaked if they were not covered up last night. There were a lot of bangs last night though so perhaps a lot of the fireworks are already used. i think this morning may be a good one for making room in the freezer and putting in some apples of which I have many piles in the kitchen.
Brilliant sunshine tempted me out. Luckily i was working on this side of the duckpond when the sky went black and the heavens opened. I had just managed to plant up 60 more tulips in two big pots when i had to dive for the kitchen door. It stopped as suddenly as it had started and now brilliant sunshine again but also a deeper duckpond and I do not like gardening in wellies so perhaps more cooking of apples if no visitors come to tea.
You must be getting the same weather as us, we woke to blue sky but wet ground, the day has been dry until around 3.30 the heavens opened , I'm never going to get this lawn cut, got all the leaves tho.
your consertvatery is a sea of colours Marion, lovely
i had a look at my tomatoes today and there are only two more to ripen, I'm going to share them at work
Yes, flumpy1 I do not think there will be much green tomato chutney made up and down the land this year but lots of tomato ketchup. I think my conservatory is going to be full of flowers at Xmas. I still have lots to bring in before the frost threatens which it may do next week.
Oh, Clarington, I like to post lots of pictures as well as chat about my garden. Sometimes I feel my command of English is not sufficient to do justice to it!
Oh such a chilly Monday morning. I definitely need to look out some thick jumpers and socks for my boots as there are some puddles left in the garden from last night's rain and I really must bring in a lot of tender plants since the forecast for tonight is just 6 degrees which might damage some. I have a feeling i will be putting on the central heating for a few hours tonight too. Last week was delightful and I am so glad now I took advantage of the warmth, especially as my brown face makes me look as if I have just come back from a holiday abroad! But as Shakespeare put it in one of his sonnets "Marion's nose looks red and raw" will be more like it this week.
Despite my red nose and very cold feet and hands, no one could have been happier than I was gardening in the sunshine today. First I planted a huge bagful of Tulips called Fur Elise given me by my friend which prompted me to put the piano version of Beethoven's piece on my laptop which has superb sound. Then I found spots for four of my newly hardened off trailing winter pansies and planted out six of my Heuchera Key Lime Pie plants I grew from cuttings. Then i warmed up in the conservatory pricking out 18 more Oriental poppies for Mr. Fothergills trials. Bliss.
Rained again last night in Bristol so very damp garden and only 8degrrees forecast too. But still lots more tulips to plant and pruning to get on with so that should keep me warm. Then I can come in for coffee and music on my laptop. Going to a play about the landgirls in World war 2 in December - brings back memories. No foreign temporary labour then for potato harvest time in Scotland so we secondary school pupils had a week off school to help the landgirls get it in. No machinery to help either. Makes growing potatoes in a planter seem cissy somehow.
Oh I got so cold planting tulips I had to warm up in the conservatory. My pansies cheered me just by noticing I have very few twins and no triplets . Here are some of the new faces I had smiling at me this morning. I brought in another three lots of pelargoniums with lobelia still in full flower at their feet and spent an hour taking the wet leaves off my alpines where I
