  • My conservatory is like new again and the roofers did a splendid job on the roof.  Scaffolding went up Tuesday, roofers came Wednesday, Scaffolding down by 11.30 Thursday morning!  I cannot praise the contractor for the job appointed by the insurance co. enough.  Thank you for your concern, Flumpy1.  your fence sounds like a good job too.  Your tomatoes should all ripen this year, either on the vine or in a drawer with a banana to give off ethylene to ripen them.  Take the top out of the plant when you have five trusses.  Too late for flowers to be pollinated by the insects soon.

  • Great to have you back Marion-have really missed your posts!image

  • Cooler again today but will be a great day for gardening.  I have a lot to do but it will be a day of discovery no doubt like yesterday when I found lots of red polyanthus in full flower and even a yellow azalea.  Signs of spring even before winter starts!  Tomorrow my computer guru comes so pics soon after no doubt.  I looked at my pics from Hill Close Gadns and Upton Manor on my camera yesterday and they are stupendous.

  • My goodness I did a lot of gardening for an 86 year old if I say it myself.  All my alliums planted in pots, tender subjects repotted and placed in clean area of the conservatory, beans, tomatoes and lots of bunches of flowers picked, more of the conservatory windows cleaned and shelves polished ready for more plants, hoping to get it done by next weekend and floor washed and table brought back in.  I emptied 8 tomato plants that had finished fruiting from their big pots si, when i have grown on Mr. fothergill's plug plants for sept. which are trailing winter pansies they can occupy the pots which are now cleaned and waiting for occupants.  Days like this are so satisfying.  My harvest was amazing as i fed 6 households with beans and tomatoes last week and did not expect to crowd the kitchen table again today.  and the forecast is for more of the same weather for most of this week!  Lots of apples to harvest tomorrow.  Now to have a cup of tea and enjoy doing flower arrangements before I decide what to make for supper.  I do have some very large potatoes which i also dug up today which would make great chips with their skins on as they have no blemishes at all.

Marion - you are an inspirationimage

  • Awww, thank you, chicky.  Good to hear from you.  I hope you are well and enjoying your gardening as I am.  On Monty fondness for wildlife and rambling  Don's programme about the planet last night they were worried about the ills being caused like erosion by people's love of rambling and exploring wild places for enjoyment and exercise. and wondering what to do about it.  I think the solution is to have mre wildlife gardening.  The creatures come to you then and you can forage in your own garden.  I do think a law is needed to ensure all new affordable housing is planted with a fruit tree before the first tenant arrives.

I think thats a brilliant idea. If they pick a selection, then they should cross pollinate with the neighbours.
