Checking on my Mr. Fothergills trials I was delighted to see lots of tiny yellow flowers on my cucamelons with even tinier fruits behind them.  Lime flavoured gherkins sounds good to me for salads and pickles.  75 gazanias now potted up and room found for them in the conservatory.  Great crop of tomatoes in there. I sampled my "Ebony"blackcurrants from Mr. Fothergill and they were big, juicy and sweet.  Lots of strawberries so made a strawberry jelly to have with ice-cream tomorrow.  Masses of broad beans still to pick on the autumn sown "Aquadulce" and the huge crop on the spring sown ones are showing an inch in length.  I cannot remember in all my years of gardening such lushness.  All the plants, native or foreign, decorative or useful are showing how much they loved the wet, mild winter.

Can you save some jelly for me image

We enjoyed the soup, strawberry jelly and ice-cream very much after two hours exploration of the Botanic Garden.  It was lovely talking plants all day to Rose and she brought me two lovely plants of Aquilegie clematiflora, one with three buds on already.  The weather was glorious, definitely a sunhat day. I noticed the tomatoes in the drive need watering tonight when things are a bit cooler so that and picking any ripe strawberries will have to be done.

Yes, picking lots of huge strawberries now.  Have a good rest, flumpy 1.  sudden hot spells can be very tiring.  Even hotter here forecast for tomorrow!  I think an early night and getting up early to work in the cool is a good idea.

Oh what a scorcher.  I am so glad I decided to get up early and work in the cool.  I have made a start on the nettles in the butterfly garden, leaving them on the path for the caterpillers of the seven butterflies who lay their eggs on them.  Sweetcorn sown into 9cm pots . and everything that was desperate for a drink watered.  Now i have watered myself and now plant to fill up the green wheeliebin which has just been emptied.  I think I will read a book outside in the afternoon and take up the heavy work in the evening when it will be cooler, after i have gorged myself on strawberries picked this morning.  There was a big hooray from me when I inspected the conservatory this morning and as both Snackbite and King of the North peppers which we are trialling for Mr. Fothergill have flowers and tiny fruits on.

Just had to take a breather and get snapping.  The colours in the flowers were so intense today in the bright sunshine and wall to wall blue sky.

Absolutely lovely Marion. Hope you enjoyed your sit down with a book this afternoon.  Gorgeous blue sky.  Not seen much of that here today.

It was much too hot to work outside this afternoon so i finished my book - The Naturalist's Garden by John Feltwell.  It brought together all the principles I use in my gardening.  Too bad you are not having this glorious weather too, Lesley K.

Hi Marion, glad you enjoyed your day yesterday, it was hot in the NW but cloudy and it's the same this am, I wasn't feeling well last night and fell asleep at 8pm, feeling much better today, going to tidy up the bottom end of my garden and plant more Gazanias, are you doing anything today Marion? image
