tok me a long time to get the Meconopsis to grow, over a few years adding mor and more leaf mould to the soil i eventually got them to flower. They really shine out in one of the shady borders.

spoilt by stray cane. Staking has never been one of my strong points. Things usually end up like a trussed chicken.

Another shady area. I particularly like the aquillegia nivea, which seems to come true from seed and the Actaea, cant remember which one. I have tried to get seeds to germinate for years with no success yet. Apparently their seeds contain some sort of growth inhibitor. This seems to me to not be a very good way of trying to reproduce, which I thought was the only aim of most living things.

You have a lovely garden puncdoc, send as many as you can! I love looking at people's photos. About time we had some from Verdun.

Actually didn't rain today! Forecast is heavy rain tomorrow.image

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • evening all .... Well I finally got home from work at 3 am lol I wasn't out playing I wish criminals would respect my work life balance........ Punkdoc fab fab pics .... Went to a friends house today omg what a fab garden she has with some lovely plants ( already told her I will be taking cuttings of her sedums!!)  managed to check my hellibore babies and noticed with interest that despite all coming up roughly the same times the seedlings with the munched leaves are the ones to be producing a 3rd hopefully true leaf while the others are not showing any signs of a 3rd leaf...... It makes sense I know throw up another leaf to keep maximising the photosynthesis but well just thought it was interesting....... Clari x10 packets of chillie seeds will be winging their way to you soon .....well I'm pooped as was up at 7 with lo so glass of red and bed for me xxx

Ah yes, that's better. Thanks punkdoc.

I don't do staking either. They stand up or they fall down.

I think actaeas are like aquilegias in liking a chill to germinate. I've only grown

    A. rubra and alba and they both got the cold treatment.

Love the meconopsis, no hope for that here.

I feel better now. I've seen some summer and shut out the winterimage

Can't comment on all posts so imageimage

But must say Pd the Himilayan blue poppy..I am so envious, got a small one in GH in a pot so hoping it survives. It's one thing I've so craved and tried for years. Blue flowers are my fav.

    See you all tomoz. image

Stacey, reyour seedlings. I think a bit of trauma promotes growth. Early on here, I'd planted a few laurels by the roadside. The one that did best was the one that was broken when the electricity board did some tree work.

Can the criminals just work 10-3 while the kids are safe in school please? Had text from sons school telling about a couple trying to get a girl into a white van locally. That' s after a funny dream last night where I let my son walk to the park alone, eerie.

nice to see at bit of summer over at pd's.

Stacey it sounds like you're bust as always , and ill again?

My sis can't abide staked plants so that reminded me of her.

off to do b all now, my 2 day week is catching up with me so must get my rest (preferably out of a bottle), also intend to finish Xmas chocs tonight, can only spare a couple so first come first served. ...
