Poddington - glad you had a lovely holiday image

Pdoc - glad you had a good birthday - we're very into nose to tail eating here - if you're going to kill an animal it would be totally wrong to waste any of it - that's our way of thinking anyway - sweetbreads for supper tomorrow image

We've just had roast thick rib of beef, proper gravy. Yorkshire puds, roast parsnip, Jersey Royals and spring cabbage image  Think OH earned that after all his Under-gardening today image

We are going to be eating late. I forgot the time, was filthy, needed a bath,so its in the oven now.

Lots of planting done today, four large dahlias that were in large buckets and 3 foot tall just had to go in. Big holes dug, through the clay and down to the shale!!!!

Lots of FYM added and what weed roots I could get out of the claggy bit are out.

Weather has been sunny here all afternoon, as opposed to the forecast which was dire. We cancelled a BBQ that we could have had.image

We seem to have missed the rain too - been glorious all day. Made a good effort on the weeding - reacquainted myself with parts of the beds i haven't seen for ages. In my absence 3 toads had set up residence in the fallen leaves - hope they have been eating slugs for me image

Our turn for rain tomorrow - got a few GH jobs to do, but then might have to resort to HW and that thing you do to flatten clothes ......

I think I've caught up now, lots of talk about Crete...but we need to stop that now or I won't sleep at all for the next 13 weeks image Talking of which, this time in 13 weeks I will be sat somewhere very hit with a cocktail....and that's all I'm saying now image But I am going to read The Island again before I go!

I've planted out all of my sunflowers today, Cosmos,my woof the Morning Glory and Lavatera.  I've also put a few Tumbling toms in the big planters and planted the Dwarf beans in planters and a couple in the ground.

Doesn't sound like a lot but took a while as I was dodging the rain.  Tomorrow's jobs are planting out courgettes, squash and Aubergines and clearing out the GH to set up the grow-bags and supports for the tomatoes, cucumbers, more aubergines and  a couple of courgettes image

Glad you had a good birthday Punkdoc. I looked up the Black Swan in Helmsley, looks yummy, lovely food photos. I know Helmsley, have an old school friend and an uncle in N. Yorks. We are going there in July. Love the Helmsley walled garden too.

2 sons, DILs and adorable granddaughter and new baby came for lunch today, French Mothers Day. Lovely to see them all. Sons gave me a dipladenia.

Looks lovely!  We just barbecued chicken and ate with littlies - lots of garden salad (thank you to whoever told me to grow salad in the greenhouse when I got it - reaping the rewards now!).  Our teenager is in Germany, and I am missing him beyond belief.  Putting on the barbecue and sitting out to eat is a bit of ceremony here, and it's just not right to have someone missing.  image

Busy Lizzie that is beautiful.  There were some plants in the GC the other day that were stunning - had some sort of name that sounded like 'sun' or 'sol' or something - next to the bougainvillia.  Doubt we would have the right position for it.
