We stayed in Aghios Nikolaos about 39 years ago! Must be that, because it was before I had children. I think my maths isn't good either, Clari, because I thought I was 27. We went to Spinalonga too, on a boat which I was nearly sick in because I ate something the hotel shouldn't have served the night before. It was October and was over 80°F and most of the beaches were deserted. When we got home we spent over 3 hours sitting on the platform at Gatwick station, about 45°F in our summer clothes in the night. First train was at 6am and everywhere was shut.
But we did have a lovely time in Crete. We hired a mini Fiat, like a bubble car, and the mountain roads were amazing, dirt tracks, wonderful scenery. The sea was clear and warm.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Someone on here recently (?Verdun??) said something about cutting Lupins right back once they have flowered - is that right? Is it like giving the hardy geraniums their haircut?? Mine are wonderful at the moment, but i am thinking ahead.
