Hosta - I won't look at the state of your garden if you won't look at the state of mine - is that a deal???
I'm feeling very after a busy day indoors and out in the sunshine so I'm going to doze on the sofa in front of the telly with some luxury nougat - a pressie from OH
((Hugs)) and sweet dreams to everyone - see you in the morning

Snap, Lesley! I've been hacking away at the neighbours' brambles too, coming through the fence and trying to take over the world. Wish they'd do something with their untended patch of ground - but at least they give me carte blanche to go onto their land and chop things down.
And Snap to Jo too! We found a very hairy dark brown caterpillar yesterday when clearing brambles in the park, identified by the one who knows his insects (not me, sadly) as a fox moth caterpillar.
It was a lovely afternoon in the garden, picking plums, weeding and pottering. Not all that warm with a strong breeze, but it made me very content.
Hope all your weekends are happy, rain or not.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Glad you had a good productive day too Liri. If I had carte blanche from the neighbours I wouldn't know where to start. No caterpillars found here, just a ladybird and loads of snails
Rb I did see that you had found a dress for GD and had meant to ask what colour you chose. Time will fly and your GS will be back before you know it
Yvie, that must be the most expensive capillary matting ever (plonkers). Hope you see some improvement in your Mum on the next visit.
Hope your roof is now sorted KEF and that you can look forward to your holiday.
Quick good night to you all, been a very hectic day, especially the bit where the phone company cut off the phone line by mistake instead of installing a second one - how that happened I don't know but I had a jollly good rant about it - the French advisers response was that you are not in the UK now madam and we have just come out of the August holidays. I shall be seeking compensation and if I don't get it I will set Verdun onto her.
Must get to bed now, all rooms checking out tomorrow and all full again tomorrow night and not quite sure whose idea it was but we are having a Mexican pool party tomorrow evening.....tequila sunrise anyone?
“Coffee. Garden. Coffee. Does a good morning need anything else?” —Betsy Cañas Garmon
Hello everyone. I've got a lovely sunny day here, about 21c I think and have been out and about in the garden doing little jobs. Every time I do that, I see about a hundred jobs that have been waiting for warmer weather, not the least off which is cleaning empty pots and trays. The water has been too cold to do it for months.
I always give my roses a final prune in August so that the new shoots don't come out too early and get frost bitten, but this year has been so cold for so long that I haven't had a chance. Yesterday I got out there and did it and have new puncture marks all over my hands and wrists and my flannel shirt has new ventilation holes on the shoulders and sleeves. . On the positive side, I feel really good that the job has been done at last. Mind you, I've still got to cut the prunings into small bits to fit into a rubbish bag for the tip. Might take some gloves this time. The weather girl this morning advised more snow on the ski fields mid week, so I'll be rather unhappy if we get another cold blast.
Hubby is creating a new bed for my potatoes, so I might need to go up there and do some supervising (his words, not mine).
Good morning all Good evening Pat That sounds like a very productive day you've had there.
I've discovered where the flimsy black plastic module that a friend gave me some seedlings has gone - I knew I'd left it in the 'untidy corner' to be cleared away, then it wasn't there the next morning weeks have gone by and I'd forgotten about it, then yesterday, when I was looking carefully at the poorly ash tree and the area around what would be the stump, I caught a glimpse of something black ... I shall explain ....
Between the base of the ash trunk and the neighbour's brick garage wall there's a gap of about 18". Ages ago I placed a home-made hog box in the gap and covered it with prunings, dried runner bean haulm, dry leaves etc. and then left it well alone.
Well, it seems that a hedgehog has taken up residence, and he/she is using the shiny black plastic 'module' as a front door - blocking up the entrance behind him every time he goes in. A shiny black front door for a hedgehog!!!

Good morning Verdun Just get that hurricane over and done with please - we arrive on Friday!!! But with our luck it will probably hit Cornwall Sunday evening when we're at The Minack! Wet and drippy here at the moment, but not so cool overnight - last night the minimum was 12.1C whereas the night before it was 8.8C - at the moment it's 15.1C and we had a high of 22.1C yesterday. Don't think it'll be as warm today tho
Verdun, we might need a list of good pubs with warming firesides in the St Ag area

Hello Dove and Jo. youre both up and about early as usual. Fascinating story about the hedgehog and his plastic door. What a clever little thing and he has good taste as well.
yes got a lot done today and just now when I was closing up the GH for the evening, noticed the thermometer - it reached 30c in there today, even with the door wide open. No wonder things are starting to move along.
the new location for the potato bed is working out ok. Still a bit rough, but the potatoes won't mind. They will grow anywhere. They're ready and waiting.
