We had a 29 footer Salty Dog some years ago. Made a very silly offer at a boat sale when torrential rain and gale force winds put off most buyers and to our surprise it was accepted. She had a brand new engine and other stuff which was part of the attraction.
We had her ready for the glorious summer of 2003 when every day was a sailing day. It wasn't until September we found out her big problem - she leaked. Not from underneath but somewhere on top whenever it rained. Spent days mopping out the bilges, drying cushions etc - not to mention sealing every single hole we could find.
We made it better but not good enough. Next year was a wet summer - so we sold her. Since then we've had to rely on chartering. Still good fun but not as much fun as having your own stuff around you
Jo - hope you dry out soon - still hot & humid here but we might get wet later on.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
That looks yummy. GQT on the radio now and about to put the kettle on. Sun's come out though so will have to go out and get some fresh air soon.
Tyro's a Westerly Centaur, Topbird. 2444 of them sold between 1969 and 1980 (mine's 1975) making it the most popular British boat ever built. Everywhere I look I see them - I guess most of them are still around. Most have replacement engines though.
I have a couple of minor deck leaks as well - I suspect the sealant has hardened on the fittings. Happy to have crew, when I eventually get going, if you fancy it.
