My yard is about 15' square, faces north and is surrounded by brick walls, one of which is my neighbour's ktchen extension. The strip of soil along one edge gets hardly any sun; I have an espalier gooseberry in the most sunny spot. I've sunk an old washing-up bowl to make a tiny pond, and that's about it.
Oh, and it's overhung by another neighbour's cypress.
Ma has Alzheimer's and since Pa died earlier this year she's been quite confused - however, she's always had a fondness for icecream so hopefully it'll make a nice little outing for her, and if we have to have icecream as well to encourage her, then we'll just have to force ourselves
Fingers crossed re the potato!

Morning all. It's been very damp and muggy overnight here. Good for the plants though. I have a cake to organise for my 'baby' who is 18 today. Not sure how that happened
Glad hubby's on the mend Pat. Relief all round I expect
Dove - I see you've posted on a certain thread....I was ready for reaching for a rope...
Steve - shade only becomes an issue if you let it. Lots of ferns, foliage and Solomon's Seal
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Steve, I don't know how you can bear it. Do you have an allotment as well? I realise that not everyone needs or wants space, but I've been used to lots of space all my life so I can't imagine living in a tight spot like that.
Dove, the spud must have been ok, because he's just done another one. I've told him to take it slowly, but only he can know how his intestines feel. Don't feel you have to join your mum in forcing an ice cream down. what a sacrifice!
Morning KEF and Jo and whoever's snuck in behind me
Happy birthday to Little Fairy
Steve, you could have been describing our last garden, roughly the same size and north-facing surrounded by tall buildings, no sun except on one wall in mid summer - the hedgehog came and went under the broken alley gate.
We managed to grow runner beans up a small wigwam and strawberries in baskets on the sunny wall. We made a pond by sinking a cut down plastic dustbin into the garden We grew carrots and chard in broken recycling boxes by the back door.

Good morning, everything is steaming here after heavy rain last night
dove, I envy you your evening, the midges here make it impossible to stay out Hope Ma is in good form
little Fairy Happy Birthday, enjoy the cake
Joe what do you keep in the car?
OH has golf match today so I am heading off to Dumfries House, a beautiful house that was saved from auction at the 11th hour by Prince Charles and now just keeps getting better. Since I was last there the walled garden has been completed . Photos later
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.” A A Milne
Good ice cream weather forecast for here later Dove - hope you all enjoy yours. Save me one with some raspberry sauce
I'm feeling quite smug about my car - only because I cleaned the inside thoroughly last week and it looked really good! The boot has had compost in it since though.. well, they were a bargain....

Chance'd be a fine thing, Dove!

(This is why I like gardening elsewhere).
