Pat the sun is actually out here today but a lot of cloud going about. Get the feeling some wet weather not far away my bones are jumpin today usually a sign of cold n damp weather. Oh the joys of getting older
Hello everyone. Just to finish my earlier comments about pumpkins. I've put the scone recipe on the other thread. Halloween was never a part of our upbringing here, but I suspect that modern children have caught on from seeing American TV shows. I tried to grow them here a couple of times, but our summers are too short. They need to be out in the weather to harden before harvest and storage. In the end it's easier to buy them when you want them, even though I'd prefer to grow my own vegetables. Anyway, that's it for pumpkins.
We are promised rain by the Weather Bureau, but I don't believe them. We've not had a drop for weeks. Day temps getting to low 20s, and clear skies so far. It seems to me from some of your comments that your autumn and our spring are very similar at the moment. Cold mornings and nice days, except lots of you have rain And we don't. Boo hoo.
Good morning everybody , bit over caste , rained all night do everything a bit wet
having some new slabs put down today fo the garden furniture we bought last year , bit less lawn to cut
out most of yesterday but found a proper garden centre who can supply us with blackthorn bushes for the sloe berries , sloe gin , vodka and port , a nice winters drink
It's funny thinking of you having short summers Pat - we grew up thinking it was summer all year round in Australia
We didn't use pumpkins for Hallowe'en when we were children - we used hollowed out mangolds or sugar beet and did apple bobbing - but it was a pretty low key affair as Guy Fawkes Night a few days later was the Big Event.
That reminds me of an 'overheard' in our office before I retired - I heard someone bemoaning that
'its a shame that Hallowe'en is so close to Guy Fawkes Night this year'
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Dove we used hollowed out turnips at halloween and like you thought the same about oz. Actually know more about New Zealand as we get a lot of kiwis over to play rugby for our local clubs.
Our cousins in Tasmania always said that we spend too long working in the UK and not enough time playing - until we explained that we only work so hard in order to pay our fuel bills in the winter!!!

Clarice, we used to go to Satlcoats and Stevenson for the day when I was a child. ( too poor to stay longer ) and have wonderful memories of both.
Fairygirl, I've not heard that expression in about 30 years.
Anyway, GREAT NEWS : I saw the hedgehog last night. A nice big one,so hopefully there's a family somewhere.
Another dreech, (or is it driech?) day here so into the polytunnel for me again.
...and you'd think they'd've made more of a gap between Christmas and New Year,
