Darn cold! And that's putting it politely. I'm fed up this winter. We've had the fire going since 1st April (do you call April first, April Fools day? As we do) and fire still going.  Minus 3 and minus 5 yesterday and today. North Island is much warmer than us (about comparable with Sydney).

None of you mentioned pumpkin scones in the earlier chat, do you make them?  Rather good with fresh butter. Not jam and cream.image

I expect Fairy has set off on her walk by now - have a good day Fairy image

Pumpkin not a huge part of the UK diet Pat ... well, not until Hallowe'en when the shops are full of them and then we're all swapping recipes for things to do with the flesh after we've helped children to hollow them out to decorate the front porch etc.

They are grown more and more here, and on our way to visit OH's mum we cross The Fens and there's an area where there are acres and acres of pumpkins - they look marvellous as they ripen in the autumn sunlight.

We are getting into smaller squashes tho, the farm shop sells lots of summer squashes and then the harder skinned winter ones that store well are becoming more popular.  I usually buy a few choice ones and store them in the garage to use in the winter.

    Good morning Verdun image

It was lovely first thing when I got up, I wandered around the garden in my jimjams looking at my planting from yesterday and admiring dahlia Star Child and my Yellow Honka (gift from Wonky).  Now you've sent the rain up here and I've had to come indoors ...

Hi Dove. There's a site here somewhere for recipes.  I'll have a look for it and put the pumpkin scone recipe up. Someone might like to try them.image

Good morningimage.  Beautiful morning here and just taken the dog out without a coat.  I could count the times I've done that on one hand this year.  Your time will come Patimage

Hope the weather stays good for Fairy's adventureimage.

  • Morning All. image

Despite feeling a bit overwhelmed with garden yesterday and not knowing where to start, just put my head down and got on with it and actually felt like I made some progress, more of the same today and hopefully back on track. image

This latest tranche of guests have been very easy, up at a reasonable time, out all day and straight to bed on arrival back. The last lot (lovely as they were), breakfasted in waves from 8 till noon, stayed around the pool all day sat drinking on the terrace all night, not going to bed until after 1 or 2 in the morning and although no trouble did rather get under my feet and definitely created more runs to the bottle recycling centre. image

Anyway, gardening today, good day to all and don't be eating too many pancakes, scones, dropscones or flapjacks. imageimage
