In our house it's got to the point that we only answer the phone to people whose names or numbers are shown, and known to us. Any other numbers, we simply ignore - if somebody is calling with a genuine, or urgent call, then they leave a message - funny how about 95 per cent of the ignored calls leave nothing! Having said that, they still keep trying!
We did away with the home phone. App on the mobile that auto-rejects withheld numbers and allows you to block persistent callers.
The Gods of Scottish Weather decided to stay the rain today, so we cut out all the fading borage that we didn't want to set seed along with all the Sweet Peas that are past their best, then risked electrocution and cut the grass and the borage and Sweet Peas. Lazy, but it makes a nice fresh mulch for around the hedging. Trying to decide on what I'm planting next year in the gaps the Borage will leave. Also need to move the A Millefolium as the bed this year was too exposed. Will porbably move back to the old bed once it gets widened.
Successful plants this year:-
Borage, bees all over it to the ignorance of everything else
Lupins, same as above, except the ones the snails ate.
Tagetes. First time growing them. Lovely.
C Ruber "Alba", Delightful mess of a plant.
Foxgloves.
Kinda Failures:-
A Millefolium, my own fault for moving them.
Crocuses. Killed by the wind.
Snapdragons. Same issue with the wind all growing at a 45 degree angle.
regarding the phone call problem. We recently got a new phone, made by BT I believe that blocks 100% of these calls. You simply put in all the numbers you want to be able to get through to you. Anybody else who calls first has to say who they are, then phone then rings and gives you the chance to hear who it is before deciding to accept or reject the call. It's been a god send, if our phone rings now it's almost a shock.
on the " we don't answer the phone unless we recognise the number" routine.
When you're expecting a delivery, from Waitrose, for example, Please DO answer the phone , it's probably the driver trying to get some decent directions.

Hi guys,

It's a double earner for BT, as they are likely the ones that sold your number in the first place.
Good morning all
