Morning all, quick pop in from phone as laptop still doing something strange.
Thanks for support & encouragement, need it, think maybe this was a silly idea, although I work loads in the garden it just always looks like it is neglected. Feel like a fraud for entering it. Just going to focus in the good donations for the charity.
Well done WW for your day, super result.
OK back to it - going to pull my sox up and stop fretting.
Hello and good day to all.

DD, as someone already said - if the edges are cut and the lawn mown it will look fine. I always feel that is so unfair, I spend hours weeding and it looks a mess, then OH rushes round with the tractor mower and it looks great! If you like I could come and cut the edges with my edging shears.
I must go and do something about the knee high weeds in the veggie garden, but at least there isn't a deadline to meet! And the earth is soft after the rain.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Cephalaria gigantea was great in my (former) garden in windy Northumberland - in spite of its height it just swayed around. Never had to stake it.
Belated congrats to Woody and his fellow open-gardeners! Sounds like a great day and a well-deserved result. And I'm sure, DD, as others have said, that your garden will be properly appreciated even if you haven't had time to remove every weed. I know I just feel encouraged when I visit a beautiful garden which is clearly loved and cared for by a normal person, ie someone with other things to do than dig out the last dandelion (or money to pay someone else to do the dirty work for them). Try not to stress, it'll be great!
My head's still full of Finland. I realise I'm already trying to cultivate a Finnish woodland in the garden; ground cover in the shady bit includes hepatica, oak fern, lily-of-the-valley, wild strawberry, violets & maianthemum, all of which grew wild in the area round our cabin. (I'm afraid I go in for "relaxed interweaving" in my ground cover - I just pull things out if they threaten to take over. Bit lazy but it works for me!)
Hope Dove & Wonky have a lovely day, and that this evening there's relief and rejoicing in the Chicky household.
Right. Weeds are calling.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I feel like I'm having an open garden next week. I keep rushing round and titivating much more than usual. I don't know how you manage if you're expecting 400. OH says there have to be paths. Paths are for walking on, not standing plants with no home on. So I'm rushing round planting things in gaps. The house? well they're coming to a garden party aren't they? They won't look at the state of the house will they? I've vacuumed the hall carpet.
Two lovely surprises in my garden this morning, the beautiful black stuff sitting in my compost bin and a frog in my cold frame! Sooooo happy and excited. Also saw something run out from under my plant yesterday when watering, can't say what it was but it was small furry and grey
I love having the wild life here, it's a neat garden but I'm extremely pleased things come and do their business here
