Been busy pricking out my Zinnia's and hollyhock seedlings, potted up small viola plants, potted on Russian giant and camelia, picked two bunches of perfect straight long stemmed sweet peas! Gorgeous! I'll send you home with a bunch tomorrow Dove!
Where you going in Suffolk Lizzie? That's my turf! Lots of beautiful places
Did a bit of weeding, a little bit of planting. Turned out one of the compost bins, mixed it all back up and refilled and watered it. Got a lovely bucket of compost out the bottom of it which was dug in at the other end of the garden within minutes. Digging in a plant and turned up some stunned looking bulbs that hadn't grown in the heavy soil. So, goodbye to the fresh compost, it was nice knowing you!
Well Reggie must be feeling better: he's dug up all my "grasses" and chives that up until earlier were residing around the washing line (I'm not sure if chives are ideal for underneath a washing line: I just love the colour of the flowers and so have a second collection of chives in the greenhouse for eating.)
Little sod
Went shopping *agh* and brought a dress *agh* for a my partners friends wedding (Dove and Wonky will be pleased to know that posh frock trying on was performed in my steel capped muddy boots). I have no idea of dress codes or which bits we've been invited too or whether its in side / out side / up a mountain so I've played safe, made sure I can climb into the LandRover with it on and now have a little bag of accessories to up dress or down to suit the situation: Oh how I envy chaps with their simple suit and tie!
Also, I'm not sure how (okay I do - I needed to pee quite badly and know that the facilities stood a good chance of being clean) but I ended up in Dobbies garden centre and came away with three *tiny* plants all classed as "mixed cactus". I think (through googling and looking at lots of pictures) they might be a Opuntia Microdasys, a misc green cactus with long pointy bits, and a tiger type aloe of which there seem to be many varieties that all look the same. Fingers crossed these will be going into the bathroom to add a little bit of colour once I've made some modifications to the tooth brush holders we purchased from Ikea.
I'll try and get a photograph up for you to see if anyone can identify the plants so that their labels will contain more than "Phil, James, & Percy".
Wonky, your Mum knows about our Suffolk visit and I'm hoping to meet her. We are going to Beth Chatto, Hyde Hall, Bressingham, among others. First staying near Beccles, then further South. My grandparents used to live in Southwold so we had family holidays there.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Haha Clari! Yup sounds like Reggie is feeling better!
Very proud to hear that you are keeping up the tradition of reluctantly frocking up! did the steely's work with the dress, or is that pushing it?
Have to say Clari, your bladder has excellent timing!....,and a garden centre with all the necessary convenience's.......just there! Perfect!
Lizzie the visit sounds lovely! Dove probably told you that's where her parents retired to so I had childhood holidays there also. Hope you have a lovely time
DD I am sure all will be fine, you have such a lovely garden. You are such a busy lady try and not beat yourself up!
Busy not surprised you tired
Clari Reggie clearly feeling better. Our two love getting a row, they stare at us, look remorseful for a nanosecond then tear off round the garden wrecking as much as they can! All my Lilies have had to have chicken mesh put round them for protection!
sad to say I have lost all my hollyhocks this year, not a sign of them
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.” A A Milne
An hour or so of strimming then the usual 6 hours of mowing.
The lake was alive with dragon/ damsel flies and there must be 3 different coot families given the babies are all at different stages.
I have to confess I had to shut my eyes as there were many little froglets leaving the lake, but I figured the shorter grass would make their migration easier. Then the crows moved in behind me and started picking them off. GGGGRRRRRR. I flippin' hate crows.
Llifting the canopy of the ash avenue tommorrow so I can ride the mower underneath without scratching me , the mower, pulling my ear defenders off, snagging on the ear plug wires from my iPod etc etc.
Haven't had time read back much, but Clari, I'd love to have the opportunity to "dress up" A suit is soooooooooooooooo boring. How does one "make a statement" in a boring suit?
OH has a wonderful line in Paul Smith shirts which usually provoke some sort of comment.
I thought my poor excuse for a pond was too silted up for life. We meant to reline it, but then the mallards took up residence. Today I saw a newt in there hunting, so it can't be too bad.
Dove, did you get the Cephalaria gigantea to grow?
If not, I can send you a small plant along with the snowdrops. I dug a load up this week.
Have just been told that we sold 400 tickets at the open gardens event and raised about £4,000 for our charities, which is more than last time. We also had a very enjoyable party in my garden afterwards and hopefully soon we will be able to go around each others garden while they look good.
Had a busman's holiday today, digging in a friend's garden. How daft is that.

Agree with you about crows, I hate them. We loose so much to them surely they have a natural predator?
btw. I would love to put a suit on and not have to "glam up" I fear these days are over!
