Well, the garden had a wash overnight and the ground is soaking up the water - the lawn's still a browny-yellow colour but hopefully it'll green up a bit soon.
Heard last night that a friend of ours had died Bit shellshocked here - he'd had a longstanding medical condition that landed him in hospital from time to time, but was at home with his parents recovering from an op when his heart just gave up - only in his mid 40s. OH had an email from him just that morning ..............

good morning all....well the garden is as ready as it will ever be and today is for last minute shopping etc for the refreshment side of things. Hope you forkers enjoy a Pimms. Others are doing "cakes", whatever they are! Also all the garden openers are congregating here in the evening for a relaxing party, hopefully in the garden.
The weather forecast keeps changing, so I won't tempt providence. Thanks to Gg , Chicky and Panda for the support on here and anyone else who can come tomorrow, 10 'til 5 .... 14 great gardens, and if you can do that lot, you are a gardening star. The pub and our fantastic village shop are open ( Shop 'til 2); parking signposted behind the village hall. Village is in the New Forest and is very beautiful, but not touristy tacky at all. End of advert!
Finally sorry to hear your news Dove, which puts everything into perspective, but also underlines how important our gardens are to us all. My wife still hovers at my shoulder, and all my decisions have to be approved by her. She always said she would see the garden through my eyes, and that is motivation enough.
I love the way the simple things in life can make you so happy. This beauty just opened up over night, well we don't have much darkeners here at the moment
Dove - what a horrible way to start the day. No matter how ill someone is, the shock is still enormous for the people who are close to them. Thinking of you today. Woody - I know how important your garden is to you - I think Mrs Woody would be very proud of you right now. I hope tomorrow is fine and bright and you have a tremendous day after all the hard work. Just watch out for those visiting forkers pinching your plants.....
Rain hasn't arrived - yet - but I'm sure it will appear at some point. I want to get the ground properly finished to sow grass seed but I need a full day as I'll have to net the whole area
Thanks for all the good wishes for little fairy. Didn't have any calls from the police so I assume they all got their taxis back to the friend's house where they're all staying overnight.
More tea needed here.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Always nice to see the fledgelings flying around. The Sparrows are hopping around here, annoying their parents for food and I either saw a recently fledged Chaffinch or one that's bee through a rinse cycle.

Good morning Dove and (hugs). It's very sad about your friend and my thoughts are with you and his family who must be devastated.
Thanks Lesley - it's such a shock - it really wasn't expected and we (and he) were hoping that things were going to get a bit better for him.

We now have fledgling robins in the garden
