Took Reggie for a walk this afternoon (while partner had scuttled off to Costco): aside from it being a two hour walk and involved him pulling me over (how does the tiniest cut on your hand just insist on bleeding EVERYWHERE! Poor bystander thought I'd damn near ripped my hand off!) We went for a paddle in a "pond" on top of what was once a slag heap and found... well over 100 frogs all warming themselves in the sunshine. You couldn't NOT see one! It will be interesting to see the pond in the coming weeks as frogs do what a frog has got to do. I wonder where they came from originally as its quite the walk from the river!
Wormery is now out of the shed and back in the garden (unless we get any more frosts predicted): Had a poke around the bottom section looks fantastic soil but is still full of worms including lots of babies) so I will have to hunt Edd down and see how you're meant to coax them upwards otherwise I'll never be able to use it!
Reggie now snoring away happily on the sofa. I'm considering a redesign of my previous redesign of the vegetable garden to incorporate the chicken coop. Brings it closer to the house for bad winters, means we can use the wall of the coop as the wall of the garden (i.e. dog proofing the area) so should save His Lordship a job, and hopefully would allow the chickens access into the vegetable plot after harvest time. His Lordship really ought help me get started as otherwise it'll just keep changing!!
Half the fun is in the planning Clari - change away
Had a great day feeding roses and mulching the borders. Lots more left to do, but now have a system. And my February Gold daffs have finally decided to open....so cheerful
Chicky: I dropped a hint to His Lordship and he seemed quite happy with the idea (he's had his friend around all day and always gets a guilt sensation about "leaving" me all day on the one day we're both off work: not that I timed this moment of inspiration to catch him at his weakest!) But as he put it
"As long as I have space to exercise my lawn mower and somewhere to build a garage..."
He's really not fussed at what happens to the rest of it!
I'll draw up the plans tomorrow and get out there with a tape measure one evening when he is around to offer assistance. Hopefully it is all going to fit in! It will mean that there will be no chickens until late summer as my onions are currently in the way and I'll need to move the strawberries too. I'm considering trying to grow them in guttering along the side of the green house (off the ground for greedy slugs) but am not sure how such a shallow soil base works with hard frosts and nutrients.
Temperature dropped from 8C to 4C in the hour-and-a-bit I spent in the garden this afternoon. I wondered why my nose end was frozen... But I got a lot done in the short time, which is good because tomorrow's forecast isn't promising.
Thanks for all the birthday greetings! I've really enjoyed having a 2-day birthday this year (It was actually yesterday, but since OH was at a desperately important football match the celebration happened today instead.) I doubt I'll be able to extend it again next year...
It's good to hear so many of you are getting excited about your spring gardens! What a great time of year.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

The ballet was lovely. I hope you enjoy Swan Lake as much, Lovetogarden.
Why do they put all the programmes I want to watch on the at the same time on the same evening? Bother them.
