Watching allotment challenge. If they all live miles away and only go at weekends, who does the venting, watering, sideshooting that I do every day in season?
I picked the first open hellebore flower today. A double pink spotted one from Ashwoods. Its floating in a bowl in the living room. My snowdrops are showing white, but nothing open yet.
The new bulbs in the pots for the patio are looking good.
Bird count went out of the window, silly me thinking i would manage a whole hour without one of the males in the house needing attention, then just when i thought i might get some time, one of the neighbours cats turned up! Ah well, theres always next year!
Ahhhh RB, i wondered who that strange woman was "up the cut" taking photos while doing a handstand!
Wow DD, im well impressed with your run
Anyone free to come and be my cook? Ive burned my breakfast, burned the roast spuds, messed up the INSTANT gravy...had to chuck it away and start again, filled a litre jug of stuffing-only wanted a couple of spoon fulls! Then wandered away from the spuds i had prepared for tomorrow after putting the container under the tap to fill....marvellous!
Himself has gone for a shower, taking the respite time to catch up on the big allotment challange
Submitted my bird count. Woodpecker and chaffinches missing this year, which makes me wonder last time I saw them?? Hope we have not lost them
Then went for another long walk - feet buzzing now. But it was still light at nearly 5 o'clock - yippee. Watched half of Allotment Challenge last night, about to catch up with the last bit now.
Hope Beaus packing is now sorted - good luck with the move (i'm guessing absence of internet at new abode means you could be missing for a while ..... we'll be thinking of you in that sea of boxes and bubblewrap)
I've just got to the jam bit. One and a half hours to make two sorts!!!! how ridiculous.
When I make jam its a day job. All morning to pick the blackcurrants, wash and cook, sterilise jars, fill then cool. Ready about 7pm. and whats wrong with chewy jam?. My mum made some marrow and ginger one year that was really popular. It was just like toffee.
And while we're talking about ridiculous programmes - I was listening to Brain of Britain (as I usually do on a Saturday at bedtime) and they described Ground elder/goutweed as 'a creeper'! No wonder no one knew what the heck they were talking about What is the world coming to ...
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

I'm thinking of adding zinnias to the cutting patch for next year. Anyone recommend a good variety for cutting?
