Can you please stick you head out of the window and announce loudly to the birds that you are doing the Garden Birdwatch today - otherwise all my birds will go and hide in your garden
I know you're desperate to get your dog - but having to wait a couple of months until it's dryer outside will mean a lot less muddy dog and muddy floors - every cloud has a silver lining
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good morning, beautiful sky here, rippled with pink but very cold & frosty.
Thank you for book suggestions, I especially like mysteries & detective stories although not too graphic, not keen on the very popular grizzly forensic ones, too gory. like the ones with interesting detectives. I don't like romances but do like stories exploring human nature - if you know what I mean. BL so kind of you to offer to loan some books, can we arrange a meeting?
Dove, I keep seeing an odd bird here, nearly as big a pigeon but a greenish yellow colour - any ideas? Don'tthink I should join in Great British Birdwatch though.
Clari, have a good day with your parties & I hope you get your dog soon, Shadow has been such a joy.
Hope all have a good day too, wherever you all may be.

Dove - I shall nip out once I've got some socks on and inform them that they're to form an orderly queue for my clipboard; that ought convince them to scuttle off!
As for muddy floors; my partner has size 13 feet with a tendency to fall off the nice wide path into my flower beds or trample the grass: I am well used to mud throughout the house & at least the dog is easier to wash!
There are several around here - they like lawns and we're near a golf course! We also used to get them at work, each year they'd bring their youngsters to the bird feeders - they love the blocks of fat with insects in.

Love that range Lizzie and I'm sure you're impatient to try it out. Remember you have lots of tasters here.
We enjoyed our day in Edinburgh but it was longer than expected. Our train was delayed and then cancelled because another train had broken down in the tunnel. We decided to go for a meal and check later. It worked a treat and I had no cooking to do when we arrived home three hours late. Result
Heavy frost this morning so I'm hoping the birds will be too hungry and thirsty to remember it's birdwatch day
I had forgotten about the bird watch thingy, i can do it tomorrow right? I need to stock up on feed, lets just hope Mr sparrow hawk dosent notice the "live" buffet til ive finished!
Must get up and dressed, the shopping is coming in a bit, dont want to give the poor chap nightmares!
Need to fill up all my bird feeders - they get a bit neglected in wintery mid- weeks - can never see to fill them up (note to self, miners lamp required). So I will fill today and count tomorrow.
Today I will be potting up my 10 new hellebore plugs (Shhh, don't tell Verd, he'll shout at me). All my best hellebores are the ones that started as plugs - they seem to settle in better for me, even if you have to wait 2-3 years for flowers. The GC ones seem to flower beautifully for the first year, then sulk or disappear altogether. Exception is Mrs Betty R, who has lots of buds.

Dd - is it a green woodpecker? Usually seen on the ground sticking it's beak into your lawn - it's after the ants http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_green_woodpecker
You'll probably hear it more than you see it - a loud yaffling call. Click on the audio on here http://www.rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/discoverandlearn/birdguide/name/g/greenwoodpecker/

Good morning
I should be bouncing with energy as I slept for 11 hours
We have actually got some green stuff back, the rain last night has washed most of the snow away, it's 3C and windy.
Lizzie I love your cooker enjoy it
Bird count, I will go out and announce so yours don't come here Dove.
DD I'm a thriller, murder, autopsy reader. Happily I don't have nightmares, last night I was dreaming about food.
Clari, maybe the adoption place are waiting until your dog grows big, so your OH doesn't stand on it
Hope you get a dog soon.
Happy gardening to those who are actively going out and doing.
I hope all enjoy some aspect of their day even if going to work
