Stacey, funnily enough we did get them from a car. It was through freecycle, which is where people get rid of things they no longer want for free, (you just have to pick them up). These were still on the rims.
We also got some tyres from a garage that changes tyres, they have to pay to get rid of them so welcome anyone who wants them to take them away. These ones come without the rims and you can choose any size you like. These are easier to turn inside out to make the planters. You need ones with soft sides as these turn well.
Mrs. Garden, you cut the old leaves off hellebores to show the flowers better and to prevent disease. Old leaves can get a fungus that makes them get black patches.
Funny, the writing in space appeared this time, perhaps because it's late. But notifications have stopped and latest posts is very slow, new discussions much quicker.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all - another dark morning, another week. But only three more weeks til the days start getting longer again
Our big garden excitement this week is the arrival of some new trees - 3x liquidamber and somer acers (bloodgood and a yellow/orange one). We are going for a boundary planting of autumn colour
OH spent yesterday digging holes and then filling them back in to keep them cosy.
Chicky, liquidambar is the tree I've chosen to replace the fallen one. Just got to get organised first so may be next year before it's planted. The autumn theme sounds lovely.
BL thanks for explanation, must admit I take very little if any notice of hellebores, maybe if the leaves were cut back I'd like them more...another job!

Stacey, why are you cutting the leaves off?

Remember Gardengirl's tyre planters, now seen that her thread was a year ago.
Nice photos of Wisley alpine house Chicky. Brings back memories of June.
