Hi everyone, just to stand up for we mere males on the tree decoration front I have 4 to do.
The first is already done, for the Shop, in a competition. Our theme is replica fruit, veg., packets of provisions, tins etc. We don't expect to win, but at least we should raise a titter or two. I do 2 trees here, always the same, and will be doing another where I shall be spending Christmas Day.
Sorry to here about you tribulations on the tulip front, Gardengirl, have you time to do some more, which will give you an extended season? You might get some tail end bargains at this time.
Yes, it was a very sad sight to see the house fire nearby. The massive Fire Brigade turnout was in part to protect all the surrounding thatched houses too. One story is that the family left the washing machine going, and this may have been the source, although this is not confirmed. Anyway the village is rallying round to help. The family is well known and popular. They are now staying in a holiday-let house nearby, and there is a collection for them in the Shop. Ironically the lady of the house is featured riding her horse through the Forest, on the front cover of our Calendar.
On a brighter note tonight I am going to see Gregory Porter live for the 3rd. time. Hope you are all catching up with this marvellous and original singer/songwriter. He is destined for great stardom, along with the best.
Garlic is now in the ground (I started it in pots) - rather later than planned but then I've only just eaten my third advent calendar chocolate so you can tell time keeping isn't really working of late!
Too windy for leaf sweeping they keep moving around!
Any suggestions for lunch? I'll get the kettle on!
I'll have a cuppa with you Clari. Beans on toast here today.
Liri I've got my share of moss etc too and as you say it is at least green. Not quite big enough to be a field though Edd.
Beaus I saw some lovely twigs of twisted hazel with decorations hanging off which looked lovely so I may try that in the hall this year.
The car is still covered in thick ice (not been out yet) and a delivery man who came to the door told me he had fallen three times this morning Don't think I will go out.
We are having Leek and potato soup, veg from garden, and home made bread rolls, but then I'm lucky not having to go out to work. Finished my English Christmas cards, now to start the French ones.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
We're very excited here - we've just booked a holiday cottage in Cornwall for a week in September
We love our holidays in Cornwall
The lady on the phone said that she'd reserve a week's fine weather for us - but we shouldn't need to worry, Verdun always saves us a lovely sunny week each year for our Cornish holiday

Oooh fantastic Dove! I need to start thinking about holidays for next year. We didn't really manage anything this year and with the education programme occupying me three weeks of the month I'd best get dates booked quickly before the rest are filled with "good ideas!"
Right; kettle is back on. When is it socially acceptable to start the mulled wine going?
We booked up quickly to get the cottage and 2014 prices! They're hoiking them up a bit after New Year. If they go up much more we'll have to camp out in Verdun's log cabin!
Mulled wine - if you're concerned about it being socially acceptable it should've been started just after breakfast Saturday morning for the Drag Hunt, then you'd need to get another batch on for after church yesterday morning, so it should be nicely brewed by now - goes nicely with a bacon sarnie for breakfast

Ooh Dove, maybe we cam meet for a coffee somewhere?
I love to hear of people coming to Cornwall, they really rely on the tourist trade.
That'd be really lovely Lyn
We're going to be in the Truro - St Ives area.
