On the vin rouge here (sorry to be boring, dare not risk a cocktail), had a very stressful afternoon, although not in a bad sort of way.
Took son to athletics competition and before I knew it I had been volunteered to be responsible for the shot-put scoring - bear in mind that this is all taken very seriously and I am not good with 'big numbers'. All got very complicated, especially when all the coaches and trainers decided they wanted a go to boost the team scores and started handing me hastily scribbled score cards. Anyway, don't know how it happened, but our team won, a good time was had by all (our team anyway) and now I know a bit more about 'big numbers' and learn't some choice phrases of shall we say - disappointment on the way. They do say immersion is the best way to learn a new language.
Off to watch Strictly now, vin still in hand, hope the standard rises yet again.

DD, as you're in France vin rouge is permissible and probably de rigeur.
A very long time ago my son was into club athletics (100m runner). Parents get roped in to do all sorts of stuff - I used to try to sit in the car and hide behind the dashboard - athletics training was the only chance I ever had to read a book in the daytime!

Fairygirl, thanks, but too early to say well done for the 220 tulips. Only planted 37 today. Had to weed the bed and add a barrow load of my home made compost. Also planted alliums, forget-me-nots and pansies. Wondering if all these tulips are a mistake as garden will look messy for my open day on 17th May, tulips will have finished.
Going to a Remembrance Service tomorrow, C of E, then Bring and Share lunch. Poppies will be on sale. The French have cornflowers, but it's not such a tradition as the English. I'm taking salmon salad, there are usually lots of puds.
Then on Tuesday, which is a Bank Holiday, we are going to a French Remembrance Ceremony by the war memorial in a nearby village. The Maire has invited all the English he knows to it and a Scottish bagpiper will be playing. Then we are invited to drinks and nibbles.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Having a bit of a breakdown session here. In the last month, the virgin box harddrive broke(replaced)
My video camcorder broke(not replaced)
His work laptop hard drive died, unable to fix for a week, so he bought a new additional one for work and then old one repaired.
Alternator on his car died, day before long run to Southampton, so new alternator installed, but today decided new car needed, so he bought a newish car.(old vectra 12 year old, new volvo 10 month old)
Clari I hope you're safely tucked up and snoozing!
Fidget, what a PITA all those breakdowns happening at once!
Later this morning we'll be going down to Suffolk - hopefully the weather will be fine and Pa will be well enough for us to take him to the British Legion Parade and Silence at the war memorial and place a cross for his youngest brother killed over Germany. This is usually something my son does each year with his Grandpa, and we just tag along, but son has a really nasty cold and sore throat and Pa is very susceptible to chest infections so son is going to stay away today. If the weather's grim or Pa's not up to going along, we'll watch the wreath laying at the Cenotaph with him and Ma.
On the way back we usually make a short detour via the pub and Pa has a good single malt (with his horrid thickener in it). Ma used not to be keen on the stop at the pub, but since I introduced her to hot chocolate with a splash of brandy she quite enjoys it!
The rain is tipping down here at the moment, but the Met Office website for East Anglia says "Cloud and rain soon clearing away from Norfolk and Suffolk. Otherwise, a dry day with bright or sunny spells after any early fog patches clear. On the cool side but with light winds. Maximum Temperature 12 °C." so fingers are very crossed!

Left for work at 09:45 & I've just gotten home (03:10). What a shift!
Later this morning I'm going to cut the front hedge trimmed as much as I dare. Just hope my trusty old hand shears are up to it!
