Thank you everyone for kind wishes. Being treated to breakfast in bed so no idea what it's like out there.

A day off the garden for me today!

    Morning all.

Your bed is looking great DD. Are you sure you don't want to join the Open Gardens?I've never bought or seen an intact empty bottle of wine.image

I remember thinking that about Wednesdays before I retired, Dove...  image

Not many hedgehogs here even though we're on the edge of a wood.  Seen 2 in 8 years.  But maybe they prefer to stay hidden away in the wood...

DD, we love the Dordogne, so next time we have a holiday there I'll pack my paving knife!  image

Beaus Mum, I hope you're right about the garden looking tidy for a few months.  That was my thought - but it's been so warm I think the weeds will be growing again already.  But hopefully fewer of them than there were...  image

It's magical out.  The mist is just lifting in swathes from the hillside opposite and the sun is coming through...  might get out later to clear leaves.  Not a lot of time to garden though, because at the weekend I'm off to Newcastle to sing in a concert (going to be broadcast on Radio 3!  image) and then immediately jumping on a train to Oban.  Going to our cottage for nearly a month, to put up shelves, paint the inside, clear brambles, mend furniture, organise a plumber etc.  I'm looking forward to it!

Best wishes for today, Verdun.  Hope everything works out as you wish.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Dove - thanks for the info re Hefty - it's a lovely story.

We had a hedgehog in the garden this summer & I'm very keen to encourage him & his friends back to eat my slugs. I have left a little nest of twigs & leaves under the oil tank where it is quiet, dark & dry & close to where I found him in the summer & have identified a couple of other similar spots around the garden. Fingers crossed somebody wants a free hotel for the winter! image

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Oh Liri I hope you have wifi at your cottage as you know I will want loads of pics! image

Lim sure your daughters garden will be fine now for the winter as you prob have frost a lot earlier than us too so that will keep the weeds at bay image

Star gaze your coffee went cold and I ate your cake! image

Just finished catching up.  Weather here is drizzily and not as warm as yesterday.  Was going to edge the lawns and plant a few more alliums but not sure I want to go out there at the moment.  Have a sore throat and cold so not sure getting wet would be a good thing.

Popped to Merry Hell this morning to pick up a prescriptin and pay mums care bills, so stupid, I have to draw money out from post office and then take it to my Bank (which doesn't have a local branch) to pay the bill.  Other banks wont accept payment and the post office can't arrange standing orders or direct debits from the account.

Had hedgehogs at previous house, one year  a mum and four babies stayed with us for quite a while.  Never seen one at this house though.
