  • Thanks Gg ... I bought some at Malvern which I am going to underplant my Geranium Roseannes, and also, if any left over in my new "yellow" border. They will flower a bit before most of the yellows I think but it will get the border started, and I can cut them down to tidy. Can't remember the variety at the moment but will check when I get them out.

Today I planted my Asters from Picton Nursery with some Chrysanths and 3 Hydrangea Paniculata. In front of them , a Cristo Lloyd moment, is a drift of orange pokers. Jars beautifully.image

Chicky, wish I could come to see Cleve. I wish BBC would give him some air time...running GW perhaps. Time for some new blood. He is a fav. of mine.

Just remembered that someone, quite a few days ago so I can't find who, said they were going to plant their rose "Complicata" in a pot. I have this one, which I saw in profusion at Mottisfont, and it is HUGE. It has loads of arching stems which stretch up to about 7 ft. and then sweep down to the ground. It really is my largest rose. image

Woody - now you need something shocking pink to rival the pokers! image

Busy day at t'mill. Very cold again - had to scrape the windscreen this morning image

Got the grass cut and edges done yesterday so might go and do a little digging before dinner if I can find the strength.

Ggirl- if you already have the glass just make the base to fit. If not, I'd get a piece of polycarbonate or similar from  a DIY store and make the base to fit it. Saves messing about with cutting anything. I got a couple of old windows from a friend a few months back so I'm going to make one/ two to fit them with left over timber.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Ggirl - B&Q (and i'm sure all the others too) will cut polycarbonate to order - so if you have timber you want to use that is a certain size, then you can make the lid to match.  you can get slide on edging strips for it too, to finish it off. mr Chicky made mine about 10 years ago and it is still going strongimage.  He sized it to fit round three of the black plastic trays they sell in GCs - since that was the only thing he couldn't customise.

    they are wonderful thingsimageimage

  • Yes Gg I plant it all. I call the roadside verge the "front-front" to distinguish it from the "front" garden...image. It needs some tidying at present. There are 7 (I think) cherry blossom trees, all the same, and I need to cut back other stuff to enable them to stand out.

There are levels of moist that are no fun for anyone.

I have a thick square sheet of Perspex to use for the lid, Fairygirl like the sound of windows

Chicky do you think they do slide on edge stripes for that?  Pallet planks for the base I will just have to figure out how to do that  - that is maths to do and measuring

That is good Woody I liked that area when you had the open garden so colourful
