Good morning folks! Virtually normal service has been resumed - I've got my old laptop back, and have a new one which I'll need to connect to the wifi later today. But here I am
Had a busy day yesterday with son in a borrowed big van - we loaded up furniture which has been in our garage since we moved here and took it down to daughter's place - big victorian glass fronted bookcase, gate leg table, pine kitchen chairs, large rug, wrought iron fire screen etc.
And I managed to pick up the laptops at last so now I need to find out what you've all been up to

Oh!! I see! The fruit is boiled, not the whole cake! That makes a bit more sense....but if you're cooking it for two hours, why bother to pre-cook the fruit?....
It makes the fruit absorb moisture and plump up - they're lovely and luscious like that and it helps the cake stay moist and not dry out. Try it - fantastic

Steve - you can ring the changes with a boiled fruitcake recipe by changing the liquid. Cold tea is a traditional one. I sometimes use orange or apple juice, or even cider. All delicious

Morning all. Wet here just now so I'm glad I did all the grass after work yesterday.
If you soak your fruits for your 'festival at the end of the year' cake for a couple of nights it makes them more luscious too. It means you can make it nearer the time too
Off for a look round as I was too busy last night watching lovely Mr Izzard in the drama he was in.
Hope all the workers at t'mill have a good day. I've been let off for good behaviour today
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
