Lesley, no I didn't mention cake......I just presumed that cake was an essential on any Forkers meet up.....just because we aren't in gardens doesn't mean we can't have cake
Sorry Verd. I couldn't weave any magic this time. I have been a lucky mascot for Cornwall until now... always helping them to win. This time I was a jonah. Last evening when I went for an amble around the ground they lost 2 wickets. This morning I went for a walk again and I had't gone ten paces when you can guess what happened .....anyway my forecast of a Dorset win was unfortunately correct
The early finish gave me a chance to go to Knoll nursery again and buy some more carex testacea. I also discussed my new grass based layout for my roundabout bed ( in front of my front door) with someone who knows much more about grasses than I, and identified some possibilities, which I will list on another occasion.
Tomorrow hopefully will be a full day in the garden.
Dug over where new trees are going, chatted with bloke who flattened the garden at the bottom of mine (hence no privacy and need for spending on trees ), I didn't complain but got to know what was going on, no trees to be planted on their side (his sister's bought it). Question Just need to manure it I suppose (do I need to just for trees???). Still pondering which to get - already have liriodendron (pale and fancy leaves) and amelanchier (white flowers pretty and good autumn colour). Ideas please Thinking about columnar varieties of cherry (esp if with red leaves which I think I've seen somewhere), theres a liquidambar in a columnar shape but a bit pricey compared to normal shape. For a few years there wont be much space ( enough though) until trampoline can be ditched.
Wonder if I'll ever get to meet any of you... do hope so, I'm really short of local gardening friends! - but W Yorks is miles away from most of the lovely gardens you all visit. Ah well...
Living room is currently filled with the scent of sweet peas, unexpectedly picked following my week in Scotland. The mildew was attacking & I thought that would be the end of the flowers - but happily not! That scent takes me back to summers at my granny's house in Kelvedon, Essex. Behind her garden were Unwins seed trial grounds, where they often grew new varieties of sweet pea - the perfume filled the town, pretty well.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Topbird, my friends were convinced that I was going to meet up with a group of axe murderers! She even made me text her to let her know I was ok OH had no concerns at all
Phew busy day at work today, barely stopped! Have to remove my poorly arch to his evening . . . . Can't wait till tomorrow after work
