I pinched out all the squash tendrils that escaped the patch( 4m x 3m) except the one trying to get to the dahlias over the fence, and two that are now 6 ft up a hawthorn hedge. I have over 20 that have set, currently mostly like cricket balls but three football size. When can I start using them? Do I have to wait until all the leaves die off?

Its been sunny here all day. Maybe hurricane balderdash has burnt itself out.image

After saying that I'll probably find the polytunnel on the garage roof tomorrow.image

  • Hope to do some pictures when planted up , and with Gg's help.

We have a beautiful nursery near us in a village called great missenden, they are called the plant specialist.  They not only sell lovely grasses and perennials but have beautiful beds displayed so you can see what looks lovely together

Up the road to the nursery is the home to Roald Dahl and they usually open once a year, really gorgeous gardens and his den where he wrote his books image

Verdun, an easy comfortable group image Sounds lovely to me image

  • Thanks Verd. , I was very taken with the colours. My terrace has stone with a bronzy hue and it is edged with red bricks. Should go well and soften the overall effect.

The blue of the festuca will sit well at the foot of the silver birch. The spot is a bit shady but will see how they do.

I have a patch of carex comans bronze. My mum thought they were dead. So much for the artistic bronze colour.image
