  • What a delight to hear that Monty is coming back,It will start my weekend off just right. Reading all the comments it just goes to show you can't please all of the people of the time, but this time it pleases me. As for the comments I think Monty is very down to earth & for those of you that say there's to much veg how an there be!but what about half & half. As for Chelsea I record it all & just wiz through Alan & co.What I want to see is all the gardens not the same chosen few every day with various presenters waxing lyrical.
  • Very upset Toby has been sacked from GW. I have always learned to go forward and not back. Bring back Toby! Won't be watching MD. Boring GW and you can keep your GW Live tickets next year.
  • What a shame! No more GW if that old bore is back. I like Toby and Alys - I am a new gardener - only ever seen Monty and Toby. I am sorry Monty was ill but very pleased that GW got so much better with Toby. I will not want to watch now you have decided to make such a bad change. I agree with Gaz - life should go forward not back. Toby did not need replacing I learnt a lot from him. I was not even inspired to get in the garden by Monty. I will not be following GW anymore.
  • Hmmm........ Toby made such an impression on some people they don't even know his proper name and refer to him as Tony!!! Makes you wonder how many of these comments are really genuine!!!!
  • It's a sad day for GW that it has to take the retrograde step of bringing back a media type like Monty Don, who knew very little about gardening and just seemed to appeal to a certain type of woman.

He did nothing for the programme, or for gardeners (young and old, knowledgeable or less so) whilst Toby, Alys and the team provided both knowledge and the ability to pass it on to others.

Toby will be sorely missed by real gardeners, and by young gardeners he was so keen to encourage. Monty Don brings nothing to the show apart from his rather hackneyed name - and a numbing boredom.
  • Strange - Peejay I have just read through most of the comments again quite carefully and can only see 1 person calling him Tony - that could be a typo with B and N being next to each other on the keyboard.

What is even stranger is that I have been watching the comments from the start and oddly a lot of the pro Toby comments have been removed. Now I wonder who has got rid of them?
  • I'm chuffed to bits that Monty is returning along with Carol Klien the show will be unmissable again. passion for gardening comes from the soul. Monty inspires passion for all things horticultural. Long may he Reign!
  • I feel so much for both Toby ans Alys.
Thought the format was much improved from the initial change and the balance of interest for experienced gardeners and those new to gardening was about right.
Great to have Monty back though, lets hope he is a little more tolerant of the other presenters working in his patch than Alan was ;-)
Reading comments I hope people keep viewing, Gardeners World is an institution and I'd despair if it was to be taken from our screens.
Good luck to Monty on his return and I dearly hope to see both Toby and Alys back on our screen very soon.
  • Perhaps GW under Monty Don could be renamed 'Gardening for the intellectually challenged who prefer second-rate celebrities to gardening'?

Then the genuine Gardeners World could return for real gardeners, with Toby, Alys, Joe et al and everyone would be happy.
  • I am really pleased to read today of Montys return. And actually having it set in his and Carols' garden is a bonus. I am following the Ivington Diaries this year and previously The Jewel Garden and have so wished I could visit their garden in person. This will be the next best thing.
