This was sneaked in a bit wasn't it? Toby made no mention of it at the end of this series. Monty is a bit too "organic, organic, organic" and never left any room for "maybe not" where absolutely necessary. Give Toby his own programme then! What happens to Greenacres after spending all that money on it?
Whatever the politics which have brought about this change I hope the producers will work on a part of Monty's garden that has been neglected during his illness show us how to turn it back into a productive and beautiful garden with a few experiments on the way to try out the many new varieties being introduced - things lie the slate garden at the Welsh National Botanic Garden, using slate as a mulch. Oh and how we can help the conservation of plants that are endangered because of climate change. It is not so much the presenter who matters but the content that will get people thinking and enthusiastic about gardening. Also, gardeners need to be told how important they are - as a carbon dioxide sink and in conservation. Imagine if gardeners had not bothered to cultivate Ginkgo biloba and we had never been able to see this beautiful tree. Come on, gardeners, forget celebrity culture.
I hope that this means that the people responsible for the debacle that was last years GW ie:Producers and editors have been replaced as it was obvious that they were not ideal for this program. Why oh why do you have to keep fiddling around with a program that worked so well when Alan Titchmarsh was at the helm. No more dumbing down and more content, if anyone needed replacing then Carol(good gardner poor presenter) and Joe( not a gardner just a designer with no plant knowledge). Monty Don is a step in the wrong direction. Somebody at the Beeb please pull your socks up and get Alan back.
Can’t believe Monty is back – how sad. Really liked Toby, as did all the family including my little ones – who started saying lets tickle the soil, just as Toby does!
What on earth is the BBC doing, change is not always for the better. Monty was good but then got boring. We were all just getting used to Greenacre and Toby etc. why change now is it because Monty had to be taken back after his illness because of contractual reasons? Also what a waste of money scrapping Greenacre like this, are the BBC going to give it to a community group to use?
Two programmes aweek with different presenters would be the way to go as gardening is so popular at the moment.
It is such a pity that we are losing Toby and Alys from Gardeners' World. They have brought such a practical slant to the programme that was missing with Monty. Surely, IF we have to lose them, you could have found another practical presenter and not taken the programme backwards?
Oh thank goodness that Toby is off the screen, we need a Presenter that treats his audience like adults. I am very pleased that the choice is with Monty and great to see that the BBC acknowledge that Carol Klein is essential for her knowledge and enthusiasm. As for Rachel De Thame I am outraged over the comments on this feed as it sounds as if a beautiful woman will not be trusted to contribute???

It will be a great GW year. Well done BBC!
