Both the above comments are slightly wrong. If you look on the BARB website the last 2-3 months of Gardeners World in 2010 had audiences around the 2 million mark, with a high of 2.5 million and a low of 1.4 million.
Not that ratings are what BBC2 or indeed Gardeners World are about, but for what it's worth I enjoyed it more when Toby and Alys were presenting, and unless the new series improves on what was a dreadful start I won't be watching for much longer.
Apologies if this has been posted before and everyone already knows about it, but the programme details for next Friday's Gardeners' World in the Radio Times include the following link: Happy to see Monty back? Let us know: radiotimes.com/monty
People might want to post additional comments there - but what a pity we weren't asked for our opinions *before* Toby and Alys were axed!
It's like watching Corrie without it's main characters. It's not going to work, it just doesn't feel right. I felt for the lady in her lovely garden re the Rachel/Joe make-over/help bit -how embarrasing for her, she should have been advising them! and Monty is a mistake also & it shows as all the comments on here state. Seeing as we are not going to have Alan back it has to be Carol Klein or Chris Beardshaw or maybe Sarah Raven - gardeners who the ordinary person can relate to and who are liked. The viewing figures will stay down in the 2-3 mill bracket until this is realised.
I am disgusted that the BBC have ditched Alys and Toby, what shabby behaviour. They brought gardening to a new audience - younger people and also people from deprived communities. Alys especially was a breath of frech air. I hope they will be given their own programme as they were excellent.
Welcome back to the dream team. Monty and Carol in particular have such charisma and enthusiasm but remain down to earth. Along with Joe and Rachel they combine to provide a well balanced informative and grown up programme.
I would join any camapaing to get Toby and Alys back. They were brilliant. I am incredibly dismayed at the change, I am totally baffled at peoples response - when I realised the line up was altered and came on line to find out I simply could not belive what I was reading.

I thought viewing figures last year had dropped to nearer 1.5 million, so well done Monty, Carol, Joe and Rachel for a great start to the new series.
