Wonderful to see Monty, Carol, Joe back on our screens, together. Iam a carer of the elderely and as suchlife is rather lonely. Gardener's world is a highlight in our week. Thanking youfor bringing your garden and restful characters to the screen. Lovely to see you all again- with such obvious love of plants and life. Long may you continue in good health and obviously enjoying what you do. Good luck to you all
We have been watching Gardeners World regularly since the mid 90's and with our parents in Geoff Hamilton's days. Whilst we enjoyed watching Monty Don in the past (and it's good to see he's fit again), we're disappointed that Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler have been given the push. They have great credentials for the show and should have been given more time to develop their input. We have a garden at our house and an allotment and our 8 year old son is getting into gardening through the show and helping us. When the new series started on Friday, he immediately asked "Where's Toby?" Yes, some segments in Toby's format were not as good as others, but those are things that can be tweaked. The show was appealing to a younger audience, and we feel that Gardeners World has now taken a step backwards.
Though I like Monty, I find his monotone delivery has me dozing off on a Friday night after a busy week at work. Rarely saw the last ten minutes of each programme. Toby Buckland was great, clear, informative and a true gardener. You could tell it was his passion-what more could you ask for? Give him his own show please.
Words such as dull, dreary, boring, lacklustre, monotone etc describe what I watched on Friday. What on earth is Monty doing back? It was a deeply depressing show of his garden. I have a big garden so it is not land envy but his mini estate is not what most folks deal with. His presentation was just awful.I even found my ironing more interesting and I HATE ironing - which is why I do it when I can watch GW as it takes my mind off the task. But not any more GW was so dull that I was left wondering what tortured soul thought this was what gardeners wanted. Carol was the only bit that made gardening look interesting. I thought the bit with RdT and co was so patronising. The woman whose agrden they visited is obviously a very expert and proficient gardener and yet they made it look as if they were imparting unknown skills to her. What rot! She had made a beautiful garden - they were so bad it was toecurlingly awful. The production team all deserve the sack and should be made to account for Greenacres, which our licence fees paid for. They seem to have got away with out a word. Toby should be given his own , interesting programme and those of us who prefer a brighter presenter should get our own team back. So until that happens I am giving GW up. I have already cancelled the Monty fanzine and will wait until the viewing figures prove that the BBC have made a huge mistake and put on a proper gardening programme.RIP GW.
Thank god a REAL garden is back. Last series was very down-market, half expected a gnome garden or koi pond any week. And all this ridiculous criticism on Monty's rose planting - obviously no one has read any rose advice since 1960. I have a 45 plant rose hedge, 3 years old, all planted deep in soil - and it's thriving. Carol Klein is great - as always. Thought Alys was fun in a quirky way - but her's was a very limited expertise. Never liked Toby's "aw schucks" style.
I have been trying to get hold of some seeds for the Tomato variety Outdoor Girl but cannot find it in any seed catalogues can you tell me where i might find it
Just watched it on the iplayer. Inspired to get out there? No. Dull or what? The best in the last few years was Alys from her own real garden. And Carol from hers. Change for change's sake? And it seems to be aimed at a much older audience. Yet more and more younger people are gardening. Will I watch next week? On the iplayer so I can skip the boring bits. As the first in a new series it should have been keen to get the 3 million lost viewers back.
Gardeners World has become boring again, what happened to Green Acres and Toby and Alys, can the BBC tell us what they are doing with Green Acres, I don't want to watch the privileged Mr Don in his own garden, I wanted to see how Green Acres would develope,
Oh dear! I used to enjoy watching Monty years ago but he is now not a patch on Toby. I miss him already, I actually got up to make a drink whilst GW was on this week and usually I enjoy it way too much to miss any! The format at Greenacres was working, this is a step backwards.
