  • BLISS BLISS BLISS back to a team that knows what it all about. Bring back Sarah Raven and my cup will be full
  • welcome back monty don
we watched the programme last night (in france) and what a pleasure it is to watch. we had stoped watching with the other presenter, didnt really warm to him. But now monty is back will be watching every friday night. Cannot wait till next friday.
Im off in the garden now Happy gardening this weekend.
  • watched GW last night- More info in 1st 10 mins than the whole of previous series. What a joy to have monty back. Well done BBC
  • Well Monty has returned. I'm afraid it's not the same without Toby. Toby was clearly the future and this is a backward step which will no doubt please the older generation. The fresh entertaining and warm style represented by Toby, Alys and Joe is sadly missed.
  • Here we go again. Gardening for the nobility - Monty in his vast garden and Rachel managing to cut two clematis stems. No more Alys with her refreshing ideas on how real people with normal sized gardens cope with day to day gardening. Toby's cheerful common sense so reminiscent of Geoff Hamilton showing us clearly how to tackle our gardening. Both Alys and Toby gave us excellent advice with both humour and humility. Monty has no idea how most of us garden - and shows no inclination to understand any views other than his own.
    NOT a good change BBC
Could we have a real gardening programme please?
  • We thought last night a return to form. We were so tired of being treated as total novices by 'school teacher' presenters. Without denigrating the professionalism of Buckland and Fowler, the whole atmosphere of the programme was lighter without dumbing down. And what a pleasure to be visiting other gardens again. We hope the viewing figures will reflect our enjoyment.
  • Dolls house garden 11:13 am this mornings comment perfectly sums things up, regarding last nights show anyway.
Rachel snipped a couple of clematis stems & popped a bit of compost around something while Joe split a Water Iris and fished for pond weed reluctantly all while Monty strode around his spacious grounds with comments on how much his now pleached lime trees cost and pointed at his Box balls. His rose pruning had me cringeing ( 1 plants worth) & i would never ever have pplanted a rose like that-hope it survives rot. His poor apple trees are in dire need of pruning but what a way to do it-here & oh there & it willl take some time, unquote. What a let down. I had put my previously formed gardening style opinion of Monty to one side & made up my mind to watch & enjoy last nights Gardeners World season opener, but i couldn't get past the "what on earth is going on feeling?"
Maybe if Carol had shown us around his garden that might have worked, i don't know, but a gardening programme it certainly was not.
  • Have not got a clue what it was all about last night. Very muddling and just plain strange. Gardeners world for folk with gardeners maybe? Rachel bless her should stick to ballet & bantering with the boys, Joe should stay with his allotmenteering and Monty erm well his garden is clearly stunning and yes all made by himself which is wonderful stuff, but it was all such a strange mix. Carol saved the show, without her on it it would have been Gardeners Snippets-literally.
BBC we need a gardening programme with gardeners on it please.
  • BBC you clearly are failing in your charter to ‘Promote education and Learning’. As I have discovered before Monty doesn't know the first thing about gardening. How the hell is that poor rose going to survive he planted it way to deep. To chit potatoes in direct sunlight as he suggested is wrong. The way he pruned that apple tree and left the undercut wound no wonder his trees are in such a poor state. Well I for one will be watching again, for the craic! but please any new gardeners do not follow his suggestions check the RHS or growers sites there is plenty of good information on the web.
  • I so miss Toby and Alys. They had such refreshing ideas. I felt as though we had a small return to the likes of Alan with the two of them. Monty's books are great, but not the programmes. With Rachel and Monty it is really how to prune, move plants and then visit a different garden. I don't learn anything at all. I can visit my own gardens. Toby and Alys taught me so many things and I have been gardening for 20 years. Thank goodness for Carol. What can I say - Toby and Alys -I feel like I have lost two very good friends.
