@Sheps - I'm so sorry you were having a bad time, and like you - there have been people who have made me want to leave this forum because of the shit stirring and offensive remarks. The ones who have a private profile are a prime example, because no one could look back at their posts. The lack of moderation here has always been a problem because those people should have had a permanent ban IMO. I dont they'd be tolerated over on the other forum - thankfully. I think it's why I did join G's Corner, initially, although I didn't really post. I was struggling because I loved this forum so much. I hope to see lots of your lovely pix again on there
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

My impression of GC even before l joined was that it seems to be extremely well moderated. I haven't been there long enough to know if you are able to have a private profile under certain conditions, but the mods certainly seem to be on top of their game. This whole situation is extremely bizarre, the apparent lack of mods on this site until it closes is very strange.
It's what it feels like @BenCotto..... Like so many others have said, this was my happy place. With like minded people full of knowledge, and kindness. So unlike the environment I live in.
If you'd seen some of the comments posted @AnniD , which were then reported and removed, you'd get a sense of how easy it was for some people to keep being rude and highly offensive. The problem was that others didn't see them, because they were often removed before they got a chance, and the private profile meant no one could then look at them. A recent, persistent offender posted late at night, and posts were then reported first thing, and therefore removed. There was one a couple of years ago who caused a lot of trouble because not only were they rude, they were posting seriously incorrect information which could have been problematic to new gardeners. It took a lot of effort before they were eventully banned. We had a mod for a while who did a good job, but she left. The moderating has always been inconsistent at best, and the mods didn't read threads - it was down to members to report/flag. That's why that option is there, but only after the site update a few years ago.

I don't really know what to say to all you lovely people, it certainly is sad times, i can only reiterate what others have said. I will migrate over to GC later today. See you all there 😎
GC seems friendly if a slightly different format but hopefully those of us who move over will get used to it. We already have a Rezzers thread on there maybe a Forkers one would go down well?
Whilst agreeing in the main with what Fairygirl said above, I have noticed over the time I have been 'lurking' quite a snug little group of old members, who DO have 'profiles' being unnecessarily unpleasant and snide both to newcomers and regular posters, particularly in regard to personal preferences, grammar and spelling, or belief systems. If you've missed these, all I can suggest is that the remarks have either been reported and removed, or quickly bumped off the page by other 'oldies' trying to shield their own reputations.
I'll not be joining the other forum, because I daresay they'll be awash with refugees from here, and no doubt a few of the GW snideys will be among them.
Hope those of you toddling over there find your feet. But try not to tread on the toes of those who will no doubt be wondering what's hit them!
I'm another member who might not say much but has learnt a huge amount, both gardening and otherwise, from a lovely bunch of people. Thank you, everyone, for all your words of wisdom, advice, tea and hugs.
I've reported people - whether they're existing, long time posters or not @Beastie29. I usually word it appropriately, as in - 'can you take a look at this comment?' or similar. I would expect people to report me if I was being offensive to someone, but of course - with one or two of the people I've referred to, things can also be taken out of context, and people don't see the whole picture. A new member a couple of years ago 'followed' me around the forum, making snarky comments, because I'd suggested he might be about to post an advert - first post was slightly dodgy, which is always a flag. He objected, I apologised and said it was fine, explaining the problem about persistent spammers, but he wasn't having any of it. Each time he reappeared, it was the same scenario. I know others reported him for it though. He wasn't daft- he suddenly had a private profile because we had discussed that situation, and how people could hide behind it. I even helped him with something, and I thought it was all fine, but - leopards and spots.... I think the moderation on the other forum is much heftier, so some of that very dubious behaviour won't be tolerated. It certainly isn't on the walking forum I use. People are banned if they're continually rude, and the people who run the site are on top of it all the time.

I came across a couple of very strange people in my time on here @Fairygirl (not you !), and it was very frustrating at times waiting for action to be taken. I have had a look through GC's terms and conditions which do seem to be pretty robust. I'm sure in a week or two things will settle down and we'll all rub along very well together.
