At the risk of sounding melodramatic, this really is a blow for me, and other members in a similar position to myself. Real life can be tough going, and l have found this to be a real godsend.
This forum is my first "go to place" every morning, l send a PM every day to 2 members who l consider to be close friends. I have followed the various goings on in people's lives, both good and bad, and of course learnt a great deal about gardening. I hope that l have also been able to help with advice now and again.
I just hope all these new features, tools and services make up for what l consider to be a valuable resource in so many ways, but l doubt l will making much use of them.
PS Thanks for posting that @debs64. There's an example of what l mean
Once these decisions are made they are seldom reversed. I reckon this has been brewing for quite a long time. It's the only way they'll shut down conversations they'd rather not read or deal with.
I'm not bothered, but I think a great many people will be. They'll need to source another forum that suits them, if there is such a thing out there. Or start their own. Sad, but hardly the end of the world.
I've been a forum member for going on 15years. I look in on the forum everyday like a daily routine seeing what everyone planting - plant Id - general questions and of course pictures of everyone garden I've really enjoyed it.
Really sad and disappointed GW forum will be missed.
Exactly how I feel, despite not posting often, I’ve learned so much from the wide ranging threads.
Hugely disappointing, it surely didn't cost that much to keep up the forum. I suppose we'll have to find a new home...some good suggestions towards the top of the thread by @Alan Clark2 in Liverpool
I do feel for people on the Rezzers and Forkers threads . l know a lot of them have formed very strong friendships over the years. Yes, they can email each other or hopefully be able to set up a WhatsApp or private Facebook group, but it is such a shame. Not everyone wants or is able to access Social Media, for whatever reason.
As has been said, decisions have been made and minds will not be changed, but it does seem somewhat arbitrary.
I have looked in at Gardeners Corner and l believe there are several GW Forum members on there who might be able to comment. I don't know if they have a PM facility though ?
Very disappointed. It's not the end of the world, but I will miss dropping in here. I'm sorry that this will be the end of a forum that has provided more than consistent answers to so many gardening issues. Thank you to so many of you.

Or WhatsApp?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
