This is devastating news. What will I miss? Everyone here! The banter, the immense knowledge that everyone here has contributed to, all the photographs of plants and gardens. The roses thread. Seeing how people's gardens have developed from their first plans to now. Wordle Wanderings... This was my happy place. And it didn't matter if I hadn't done any gardening today. Signed up to Gardeners Corner - just waiting to be authenticated - but it won't be the same. There will be so many here who don't join that and I will miss seeing how they are getting on, not just with their gardens, but with their lives.
@clematisdorset Surely this could be taken on as a project for somebody. It's not that large a forum. I've worked in technology field for over 20 years, and heck, I'd be prepared to take a look. Not sure if GW would be keen, mind you, or I imagine this would have been done already.
The way I understand the notice is that the forum will be read-only ("closed to new posts") for a week from 20th to 27th March, with the PM function remaining available during that week, and then will disappear completely. I could be wrong though.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
This may not be your issue but, just in case, you do get an email after signing up in order to authenticate your email address, there was a message on screen at the top saying it had been sent but I didn’t notice it for a while.
Maybe someone who knows how to can set up a (private?) Facebook group so those who want to can keep in touch?
Or WhatsApp?
I'm afraid I've never seen a FB group which is anything like as good as a forum. It's next to impossible, in my experience anyway, to find older content on FB. On any decent forum you can at least check through topic titles to see if there's anything of interest.
but if one of us made the FB group it could be even better, members would be vetted before acceptance, dumped if they were spammers after all, removed if trouble makers

I've no idea what I will do without this forum!
Yes, quite agree. Did you see the archive link that @fire put up up thread. Might that work?
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus

Maybe they made the wording open to interpretation for a reason?

I am still unclear whether the forum will be archived to read -only or not.
