Oh dear ⦠OH is sneezing and son has āborrowedā some of my Jakemanās menthol and eucalyptus lozenges and gone back to bed šĀ
Ā Good to see you @chicky šĀ Enjoy the coffee morning @Busy-Lizzie āļøĀ
Croissants sound a nice idea @coccinella ⦠I used to keep some frozen ones in the freezer but since son came to live with us freezer space is at a premium. Ā Iāll have to give it a good sort out ⦠one day ā¦Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning,Ā we were woken by rain hammering on bedroom window AGAIN.Ā Will it ever stop? No chance of any gardening.Ā It took us about 3weeks to get over our colds Dove.Ā Thanks @chicky I will send a pm.Ā
Oh dear, poor @Dovefromabove, just as you were starting to get better. Hope your OH doesnāt suffer for as long. Its 2C here, but beautifully sunny, so we are having breakfast by the sea, with a walk to follow. I will hopefully spend some time in the garden while OH is watching the Grand Prix.Ā I spent an hour and a half outside yesterday, and dragged all the laurel prunings down to the drive for shredding. That took ages, and was very boring. I must try in future to clear as I go along. I then had a session of bramble clearing! The patch is virtually done now. Iāll just have to check it over for any roots Iāve missed, and take a photo to ask for suggestions.Ā Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Snow lying here this morning, maybe half an inch of horrible, wet, slippy stuff over mud. Rather treacherous dog walk but we're back without incident and I'm staying in now. Roll on spring
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
āIt's still magic even if you know how it's done.āĀ
From the unpublished (and unwritten) Dictionary of Inept Gardening :
"Marchn. Third month of the year.Ā When inept gardeners sow their hardy annual seeds outdoor (which have been in the fridge since they were left over from last Spring, and may well not germinate; using last year's compost ostensibly because annuals may flower more freely on poor ground, but also due to the reluctance of inept gardeners to linger in the rather bracing early March weather conditions)."
Or as Thomas Nashe put things with vastly greater eloquence:
"Spring, the sweet Spring, is the year's pleasant king;
Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,
Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing:
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!"
Hopefully this month will bring very, very nice things for all of you good people.
"If you have a garden in your library, we will want for nothing" Marcus Tullius Cicero (in a letter to Marcus Terentius Varro, 46 B.C.)
Itās a miserable day here, wet and cold and not at all suitable for any gardening. The grass is growing fast, but itās still far too wet to attempt to cut it.
We had friends around last night which made for a lovely evening. We managed, at last, to find a convenient date in our diaries to meet up, so had a lot of catching up to do.
I donāt think Iāll be venturing too far today, looking at the weather.
Afternoon all, we had a big surprise this morning - woke up to snow, lots of it! I took one look, had breakfast in bed and stayed there, don't do snow. Granted it looked very nice from inside. It is now melting due to rain so no change there.
Think my gallbladder is playing up as I feel rather ugh. Don't feel like eating and coffee is horrible and I've a nasty taste in my mouth.Ā Hope it passes soon.
That cafe looks familiar @Ergates, think it's the same one as we had lunch when we stayed in Sidmouth recently. Rather nice we thought. Don't envy your continual battle with laurel/brambles, that's hard work.
Passing colds around is inevitable it seems @Dovefromabove, however hard you try not to. We sleep in separate bedrooms as soon as one of us gets sniffles/sore throat but very often that's not enough. Hope your two don't get it as bad as you had it.
Lovely to hear from you @chicky. Be interesting to hear how the pruning course went if you feel like it.
Glad you had the scan @coccinella even if it wasn't a pleasant experience. Upwards and onwards as they say.
Brother is still in hospital but has now been moved to a small ward rather a single room, we think that's a better sign. Seems quite bright and is eating small amounts.
Have a good weekend everybody, whatever you're doing.

I too, think I will chill out this afternoon. Ā Weird weather. Ā No wind. Ā No sun. Ā No blue sky just overcast. Ā No rain ..... yet! Ā
I think I will just enjoy some Foyle's War without feeling too guilty!!
Have a pleasant day everyone.
