Morning all from Buenos Aires. Arrived in this busy, vibrant city yesterday morning after a day of travelling. 3 hrs behind the UK so should only take a day or so to adjust. It's still high summer here so lots happening on the streets - outdoor cafes, buskers, people out & about. Everyone so far is very friendly and it's all very Latin!
Explored a little of the local area yesterday waiting for our room to be ready and then went for an excellent Taiwanese meal. Very small family run cafe. The food was authentic, very good and full of veg which is sometimes hard to get when you eat out - especially somewhere where steak & chips is the local dish.
Posting from a new device so not sure how this will work - let's see:
They know a lot about sweet treats in BA!
The most beautiful bookshop in the world? El Ateneo - old theatre converted to bookstore
Part of the ceiling:
Unusual branch support for absolutely huge ancient tree.Β

It's a beautiful city isn't it? I stayed in a hotel around Sante Fe and Suipacha and used to walk down Florida to and from work, and seeing the youngsters bring out an old boombox and dance the tango was amazing.
Very fond memories of the Viejo Mattias (used to have brilliant live music downstairs) and the Tres Sergentos - but that was decades back and they're probably gone by now.
Still got some music by Rudolfo Ruiz and Fernando Soler (although Fernando was a fift as tango wasn't really me!).
Edited to add: The kids got a taste for dolce de leche from the confectionery I brought back. Still make the stuff - but I no longer boil milk down (I pressure cook condensed milk).
Good afternoon all. My plug plants have arrived and they a lovely little plants. Debs and Ruby, they are more oxlips for my front garden. It has been a lovely day today. I enjoyed my walk up to the village. Picked up my prescription and nipped into one of those bargain sm, a**i, and a raspberry plant leapt into my basket. It is the variety Glen Ample. A give away price as well. I have put out my alpaca wool front and rear as the birds are now starting to look seriously at my nest boxes.
Busy, I am really sorry to hear that you had a rubbish night due to your back pain and I hope the chiropractor can come up with a solution. Oddly enough Jack (ex cat sitter) was telling me that he had a horrid night too with his back. I jokingly suggested that he could do with being put on a rack and stretched until his bones de-kinked. He laughed at that idea.
T'Bird, what wonderful pictures! I hope you and your OH did some consumer testing of those sweet delights in your first picture. Oh my goodness but I could spend a week in a book shop like that. How beautiful and what an excellent use of a 'retired' theatre. I love the tree support. So much more interesting than the boring tree stakes I've got. I wonder how much one of those would cost??
@steveTu thank you so much for sharing your super memories too. Such an interesting read.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I might refrain from watching any news bulletins tonight as I feel like I watched today's news yesterday!
Glorious day here but stuck inside as per usual. The days are almost getting long enough for doing a little bit before starting work (if I can get my backside in gear).
Anybody got any experience of growing honeyberries? I've got 2 plants that I bought last year but still torn about where to plant them.
Back from the chiropractor, nice young man. I've been questioned, examined and pummelled. 2 arthritic lumbar vertebrae had grated when I twisted causing sharp pain which had sent the 2 long muscles on each side of the spine into spasm. He said it would help to go for a proper walk each day to keep fit. As it has rained so often my walking has been rather neglected. Then, when we get a rare decent day I rush out to do over enthusiastic gardening. Some of the manipulation was painful, like massaging a bruise. It was supposed to relax the muscles out of spasm.
He said time, painkillers and more walking would do the trick but I would probably still be achey for the drive to France next week.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
BL - your post wasn't there when I started writing this morning. Sorry to hear your back has been playing up. As a fellow sufferer I can empathise. Hopefully the chiropractor has eased things up a bit.
LB - the Glen series of raspberries all seem to be pretty good doers. Love raspberries and creamπ
@steveTu - yes we have been pleasantly surprised with BA. Heard many warnings about street crime etc and OH has alreadyΒ been warned about using his camera openly, but we are being a bit street savvy and have done some research about the areas to avoid. So far we've experienced nothing but friendliness from the locals. We are staying in Recoleta so pretty close to many things. When we return from the cruise we have 2 nights in Palermo and have just booked to do a food and wine tour which should be good fun!
Today we rented an Uber to take us to the Japanese gardens. First time using Uber and a car was at the door within 3 minutes - excellent. Cheap too and much less hassle than trying to work out how to use the buses.
Gardens were good and then we walked to an art gallery with a good collection of European Art. The visiting exhibition was of works by Rodin including 'The Kiss'. First time I've seen that in real life - a beautiful and sensual piece of art. Then we walked back to the hotel via a cafe where I had a refreshing homemade lemonade with ginger and mint and a pancake filled with dolce de leche. Scrummy!

Of course Trump thinks it's the superest Super Toosday that there ever was. Why did I let the news sneak onto my tellybox! What a disgusting creature he is. Makes me quite angry at mankind. Good night all!Β Β

I had a dreadful night, my back is much worse and I feel sick. Got an appointment with a chiropractor this afternoon.
