  • Interesting that one lid says "Ginger and Garlic"!
Was that a variety of marmalade, chutney, or something completely different?

Day has not gone entirely to plan... Filled Lily's TV this morning & turned it on - all ok. Went back into the room half an hour later and noticed it wasn't working and neither was anything else in that part of the house. After investigations (why do these things ALWAYS happen when OH is away?) established Lily's TV was tripping the electrics.

Managed to get the door open and had to manhandle a load of soaking wet washing and finish it by hand. That's an hour of my life I won't get back. Man coming to look at it on Wednesday. This machine is over 20 years old so it doesn't owe us anything - but I'm still hoping it's economical to repair it.

Dentist visit was all good but it was freezing out and snow grains. Roads are a mess of silt and shingle where the river burst its banks and there are some ginormous potholes. January is not the best of months is it?

Good for making marmalade though BL. The first time I made it I ended up with sticky orange flavoured caramel with bits of peel in it. Second attempt was more successful!

Evening everyone, not read back so I hope you're all well. Haven't slept well for the last week. Last night I was still awake at 4 o'clock. Woke just before 9. Felt really tired today.Β
Haven't dozed off during day, I really hope I sleep better tonight. Might take a sleeping tablet.Β
It's been snowing most of the day, its settled and at the moment looks beautiful. Still snowing now. I'm hoping we don't get much more over night. The buses don't run through our village if its deeper than what we have at the moment. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈΒ

@rowlandscastle444 I have an English friend who lives in France who makes curry and spice powder mixes, buys them at spice fairs in the UK. She made some ginger and garlic paste and gave it to me in that jar. That was a few years ago, the smell is no longer there. She sells her spices and homemade curries in France. Most of her customers though are English.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Both my sisters live in the same county as you do, and have sent me photos of the snow they have. We in north Kent have seen snow falling, but not settling.
    Yet!!

Good afternoon all. Well the dreaded road works have struck in the lane after all of that high viz jackets display last week. They have started at the top end of the lane and there are temporary traffic lights - which actually are quite helpful and I was able to get out of the Crescent on my shopping trip to 'sco this morning quite easily. Shopping was great as the store was relatively quiet. Saw my favourite check out lady and we exchanged 'happy new year' wishes.
Sorry to hear about your mishap with the veg planter lid @Jacquimcmahon. Are yours the ones where you can buy replacement lids?
@Topbird, I rang the Dental Practice this morning and cancelled my Wednesday appointment as I mentioned yesterday. They were very understanding. I am still nursing this cold. Bought some stuff in 'sco to try and help clear it up. Horrid news about Lily's TV and I hope it is something simple and won't cost an arm and a leg to be repaired.
Busy, I made marmalade a few years back with oranges from my indoor tree. It is no longer here but I just wanted to experiment. It was made in the microwave and it was delicious. Yours looks lovely. Magnifique!
Ante, I was sorry to read that your weather has gone hideous. I think it just waited until you and your students were back in school! When my Dad was based in Kuala Lumpur, we went to school on two full days - Monday and Friday and on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, we went for half days. We got used to it and the afternoons were free for us to spend by the swimming pool on camp where we met up with all our friends. The cafe there served the nicest milkshakes I have ever had.
Hazel, how disappointing that your yarn is all 'wrong'. Like @Jacquimcmahon and yourself I cannot abide knitting with yarn that resists all attempts to train it!
SGL, sorry to read that your nights are still restless. Mine wasn't brilliant last night either.
I would love just a sprinkling of snow to make me feel as if I have actually HAD a Winter.

Delay for deliveries is being put done to the festive period, things should start getting back to normal from today. I'll give the items a few more days and then I will be going down the refund route and looking elsewhere.
Busy, Β that ( non ) marmalade looks delish. It's been many years since I last tasted marmalade but it used to be a favourite.Β
I am at the dentist tomorrow so an early start to the day. I'm signing out now, as not feeling the best. Have a good evening everyone and keep warm.Β

I am signing out for this evening. Getting ready to do the TV quizzes. See you all in the morning. I hope those further south don't get any more snow tonight. I could feel the temperature dropping already when I put my milk bottle out. Fingers crossed for decent nights sleep tonight. Enjoy your evenings.

Busy, your marmalade looks delicious, and I bet it is. It's my favorite and I make it every year.Β

LB, hope that road works will be soon finished. Your school in Kuala Lumpur was quite a fun, milkshake and pool.Β

Believe me or not I'm ready for bed. Weather is same as earlier, so I'll spend a rest of the evening with book or tv. Tomorrow will be interesting to go to school.Β Β

A very good morning one and all. Some lovely snowy pictures from down south but none here. I hope that it doesn't impact too much on people on the forum who live down there. I think I need to do some more sorting out today. I'll see how the mood takes me.
@rowlandscastle444 did you get the leak sorted?
