    Hello all.

We are having quite a sociable day, starting with church this morning. The church looked wonderful, there is a Christmas tree festival, so it was full of decorated trees, some just decorated prettily, but quite a lot had themes. There were strings of plastic sausages on the local butcher's tree and the gardeners club tree was pretty with greenery, flowers and model birds. There was coffee and biscuits after the service.

Then we went to a friend's house for mulled wine and a chatter. Her very enthusiastic young spaniel made us laugh.

Tonight we are going to friends down the street for dinner. I hope it stops raining as I would rather walk there than drive.

Afternoon all. We've had the most wonderful weekend with 23 and we all had such a good time at the Panto. We got rained on and then the snow fell on us at the end, all adding to audience participation😂 The panto was full of song and laughter, superb scenery and the most awesome sound effects, which, I may add, gave us the fright of our lives sometimes, it was so loud and sudden that we nigh on leapt out of our seats! What such good fun it was.23 and I didn't like The Giant,  the model someone had made, had made him enormous and scary looking but after the first time, we got used to him. His voice was deep, horrible and menacing but just right for the panto. It was definitely a splendid experience which we thoroughly enjoyed. 23 came away with a light-up sabre sword so he was happy.
We took him home this morning and then visited daughter as it's her birthday today. We have finally got home and we now pooped and relaxing. Phew🤭😂

    Good afternoon everyone,

It sounds as if the panto was lots of fun @Songbird-2. I’m glad you enjoyed it. We go next Sunday.

Glad your church festival was good today @Busy-Lizzie. It was the Christingle service at our church today. We’ve brought the christingles home with us to light again later.

I’ve just about finished trimming up, there is just the stair banister left to do. I’ve got the garland ready to wind around so will tackle that job tomorrow, then all is done inside. We may, or may not, get some outdoor lights up this year, depending how OH feels once his stitches come out next week.

My goodness, it got very windy and stormy yesterday evening and through the night. It’s a lot calmer today. Everything seems ok, other than I had to stand up a bottlebrush plant I have in a pot which had blown onto its side. I was expecting more damage.

Another weekend of failed planting. The hole I'd dug was full of water when I went back to it. Couldn't be bothered with that so I got a SM shop done. Way too busy for my liking but I always end up doing a quick Sunday shop, it seems. Found a fiver, tried to give it to one of the two ladies standing nearby, but they saw through my attempts to tell them I'd just seen them drop it.

Back in the CA ready to drop off watching football now.

Good afternoon all. Well the Christmas Fayre was absolutely packed out but it went well. A rough count - still to be verified - is that £2000 was made. These are the pictures of the two monsters I had to pick up on Saturday:

I think that they are the most hideous things I have ever seen - the stuff of nightmares - but the children loved them. To give you a rough idea of how tall they are, I am only 1m 55cm and I come up to the green ear (?) thingies on Frosty and Rudolph's ears

As I left the house this morning I discovered that the wind had blown over my bins so i had to spend 30 minutes retrieving all of the rubbish scattered over my front garden. not the ideal way to start the day.
Ante, I love the Advent wreath and what a nice theme for the second candle. When do you finish for your Winter break?
Biglad, just be careful that you haven't uncovered one of your drains!
Busy, I love the idea of themed Christmas trees within certain boundaries though. I'm not sure I'd want to see a refuse collectors theme - or a water treatment plant theme!
Hazel, I told you about my parents' embarrassed departure from the first panto I was taken too when I screamed the house down at the giant. So pleased you had a good time at the end though.
Biglad, I agree. It would not be good to plant your apple trees in what sounds basically like a sump. Brave you going shopping on a Sunday!

I'm so pleased that you and 23 had such a great time at the Panto, Hazel. It sounds amazing.

You are small, LB, but you sound like a bundle of fun and energie. I'm shorter than most people I know, 1m60. I can see how it was a job transporting those balloons. I agree they are hideous! Good that the children liked them.

Glad, the fair went well LB raising so much money. I quite like those figures but my, they're big😲 Very impressive.
Busy, you've had a nice, sociable busy day with still more tonight. I think the Themed trees is such a different idea and quite intriguing. As LB says, some "jobs",might prove challenging😂
Red Maple, good on you for almost completing your decorations. We haven't even started ours apart from the lights outside. Maybe this week. Hope your OH's  hand/wrist is doing okay?
We had the high winds last night too but no damage to anything thankfully. Could hear the rain against the window at one point.
Biglad, maybe spike deeply the hole you're planning on putting the apple tree in.  We have to do that in new areas in our garden as we reach the clay level not too far down.
I'm signing out now folks, have a pleasant evening.

    Good evening all.

LB, I'm glad everything went well at fair. Must admit that Rudolph looks ok, but Frosty is a bit scary. 😂 So nice to hear that you raised so much money. My winter break starts at 22. December.

Red Maple, sorry to hear that you had a stormy night, and it's so relieved that nothing is damaged. I'm still waiting rain to stop, and then I can continue with Christmas lights.

Hazel, you deserve a good, long rest after so busy weekend. I'm glad you had such a lovely time with 23.

I'm finished for today. Tomorrow is beloved Monday, GLS will collect parcel for my sister and I can start with lights, after school of course. Next week will be very busy. My mother and aunt are going next Thursday on one day fieldtrip with other old folks. My aunt lives in nearby city and bus stat from there. My father will drive mum there, but I'll go to collect her when they come back. I plan to buy Christmas tree at GC which is on my way.
Sorry for the long post. I'm going to make cup of tea and watch tv.

The hole is in the middle of what was the front lawn until a few months ago, so I don't think it's a major issue. The water table is high and more rain today, so it was pretty likely to become a mini pond. I'll try to go as deep and wide as I can and mix the resident clay clag with something more conducive before back-filling.
