Afternoon all, we also had rain overnight but awoke (late) to brilliant sunshine. I left OH to sleep on as he stayed up to watch the GP last night and then decamped to the guest bedroom. I do sleep better on my own so it's quite a good arrangement occasionally. Did my usual walk this morning through a rather muddy/soggy orchard and farm lane but admired the changing leaf colours on the different trees. They've suddenly changed, almost overnight here, the maple near the back garden is looking gorgeous against the blue sky.

Not sure what to do for the rest of the day, don't feel like more leaf clearing or tidying.

    Afternoon all,
It doesn’t hurt to have a lazy morning occasionally @Busy-Lizzie. 😊
Well, it’s been another nice day, chilly but dry, so I got out into the garden as planned and managed to do some of the jobs on my list, namely lifting the dahlia tubers and trimming back the hosta leaves. I didn’t get round to fleecing the plants today which will require protection, nor plant the tulip bulbs and cyclamens, (think I was being a wee bit ambitious), but there are more nice days forecast this week so plan to do some more tomorrow.
It was starting to feel a bit draughty on my back, so thought I’d better stop for today. I’m now enjoying a nice cup of coffee, posting here before settling down with my magazine.
There were some very pretty firework displays last night, which I watched from an upstairs window for a while. They didn’t last too long, though. I’m sure there will be a few tonight. I always think that once bonfire night is over, it’s Christmas before we know it (shh 😂).
Glad to hear that your holiday has refreshed you, @D0rdogne_Damsel.

    Hello
Good news: we are both negative. Still a lingering but slight headache. Son number one and his lovely wife have bought a flat in Amsterdam for which we had promised some money towards refurbishment. He just called to show us an estimate:
😱😱😱 how much?? Mum and dad asked in unison. 😱😱😱

    Hi all

"Death is a cold Lasagne, suspended in deep freeze" sums up how I feel at the moment. Unfortunately since my general decline in health, any cold I get seems to really knock me out.

It has rained on and off through the day. The edges of my borders are filled with water but that is nothing compared to all the people in Dordogne who are flooded and without electricity.

We've put the outdoor sofa and armchairs in the big open barn and I've brought the indoor plants back indoors. They've grown so much during the summer on the shady terrace that there is hardly room for them indoors! The leaves of the philodendron are huge.

We've finished hanging the family photos up the stairs and on the landing.

Hadn't realized your area has been hard hit as well @Busy-Lizzie, hope it all drains away soon. We've had a mix of sunshine and showers most of the day, just enough to be annoying and stopping any gardening.

I'm still clearing out kitchen cupboards, got several boxes of assorted glassware to go to the charity shop tomorrow, running out of packing material!

That does sound grim @punkdoc, any idea where or from whom you caught your cold?
Hopefully you're getting over the worse of it now.

That reminds me, anyone heard from @Hostafan1 lately? Hope he's ok.

Have you tested for Covid @punkdoc? My worst symptom this time has been a bad cold with running nose.

    Evening folks.

Hope your casserole was tasty @Dovefromabove - love stew and casserole season!
Sounds like you had a real tonic of a holiday @D0rdogne_Damsel - well deserved.
I’m loving the leaf colours too @Lizzie27 - almost makes up for the dwindling day light.
You’ve mentioned C’mas @Redmaple!! I’ll be gearing-up for full Grinch mode now the stuff in the shops and the adverts have started.
@Busy-Lizzie, my houseplants really enjoyed their summer holiday outdoors this year, even in wet Wales.
Hope your viruses go away pronto @coccinella and @punkdoc. Little treats is the way to go with colds - choccy biscuits, pancakes, pastries, that sort of thing. Calories don’t count when you are unwell I say.

Hi to everyone else who has posted or popped in recently too. Take care all.

  • I rather imagine @Hostafan1 is being kept busy making mugs of tea for whoever is installing his insulation and heating thingummajigs.  He posted pics on Fbook the other day of all the old insulation that was being removed. It’s a lot!

Hope all the poorly feel better tomorrow. Night night sleep tight folks 🛌 🐏 🐑 🐑

Morning Forkers. Sunny and cool here. As usual, no rain.  Although, there is a prediction for a big storm in  Melbourne in time for the Melbourne Cup this afternoon.😳. That could be interesting to see.
