  • Morning all,

Enjoying a nice weekend with Charlie, we have finished his bedroom off and also took a trip to his dad's to collect some of his things that he has been wanting to bring him here for a while. We were very brave, well he was, and used the brand new electric drill for the first time ever. We had to Google it, but are very happy to now have a full length bedroom mirror, a notice board and some kitchen shelves all safely secured to the wall, straight as well.  :)

We had dinner with some family friends on Friday evening, we've known them for nearly 10 years now and it was lovely to see them all.  Their son, a year younger than Charlie cooked the main meal, Toad in the Hole, and it was delicious. Charlie and his friend's dad got involved in a conversation about fitness and ended up having a sort of 'press up' competition, hilarious to watch and then we all just sat and chatted about experiences of growing up, the pitfalls to be endured at school, there were some really funny stories we all shared, all in all a really joyful evening.

Charlie cooked dinner last night, and again we fell about laughing as he had completely underestimated how much rice expands, I think we had enough rice to feed about a dozen people, it was bubbling up and over the saucepan, all good fun and all good experience. He was trying to make egg fried rice, and had unwittingly thought you just fried an egg and then chopped it up into the rice....he'll know next time that's not how it works. Good that he's experimenting.

Anyway, work day for me so have to dash.

Have a good day all, I hope your house is warmer this morning @Busy-Lizzie

  • Good morning everyone,  damp and grey again here, our first frost was yesterday. @coccinella I'm reminded of the corny old joke that used to be said about cars. "Some people swear by (insert brand name here) some swear at them"   Even in these days of mass production and standardisation different people have different experiences with certain products.  Here's hoping we have the same as you.

    Morning all.

Chilly and rain here boo. Job for today: sorting through gloves and scarves ready for those chilly mornings. I have a an ottoman in the hall which hides  houses seasonal shoes and accessories so it’s time to retire the sun hats and sun cream to replace with gloves and boots.

Have a pleasant day all whether it’s productive, busy, social or relaxing.

Morning everybody, we've got heavy rain this morning and it looks dreary - glad I was able to potter round the garden yesterday. Not sure if we'll brave our usual walk to get the paper or give in and take the car, not something I like doing for just half a mile.

Glad we haven't got frost yet @Dovefromabove.

I found some old silver polish yesterday tucked away in my cleaning cupboard so I'm going to clean some silver dishes we're donating to the charity shop. Then I've got two loads of washing to do so that will keep me busy this morning.

Glad you enjoyed your lunch out with friends @coccinella, good to get out occasionally.

@D0rdogne_Damsel, Sounds a lovely weekend with Charlie, he's going to be a very useful lad to have around. I remember when I bought my first house the trepidation of using power tools for the first time. I think my shelves were a bit wonky!

I ought to sort out my winter stuff as well @AuntyRach, thanks for reminding me.

  • Afternoon all,

    Grey, rainy and windy here.

Great that you got to spend time with friends @coccinella

Congratulations to you & Charlie on all your excellent d.i.y. @D0rdogne_Damsel

Hope you and your loved ones are able to keep warm @Dovefromabove

I agree wholeheartedly with you about the Winter darkness @Busy-Lizzie

Did anyone see "Villages by the sea" on BBC2 last night from Norfolk?  Very beautiful architecture in that village.

Here are the promised photos from the car park at the M.I.U.  (sorry the grey skies make everything look a bit bleak).

Have a wonderful day anyway folks.

Yes, we saw the Villages by the Sea programme @Badly_Maintained.  A bit away from the sea, but the houses are beautiful. I would have loved to have seen more of them featured, but the main emphasis was on the estate.

Sounds like both @coccinella and @D0rdogne_Damsel had a lovely time with friends.

Glad you survived the journey @Ergates - just got the return journey to do now!

Opened my laptop this morning to find three new appointments waiting for me - a reminder for tomorrow's book club, an invitation to a small gathering for Diwali this evening and notification of an In Bloom meeting.  All a bit much!

  • There’s a lot of interesting architecture in North Norfolk
@Badly_Maintained … including a lot of Dutch influence.

I’ve been skinning pickling onions while watching the service from the Cenotaph … now they’re sitting in salt until tomorrow.

Supper will be roasted crown of pheasant with braised l aka and roasted potatoes and parsnips and a cidery sauce made from braising the rest of the pheasant in cider and a dollop of  @WonkyWomble’s quince jelly.

I’ll use the leg meat later to make some pheasant and black pudding pasties.

    Hello all.

We've been to the Memorial Service at the church then at the war memorial. The church was full of cubs, scouts, brownies etc. I always find it quite emotional.

Then we went to the Community pub for  beer.

We came back with invitations to a lunch, a cocktail evening and information about the village Christmas Craft Fair. The calender is filling up! We are going to a play in a village hall on Friday, a Pantomime and an opera evening with dinner in December.

    Hi all

Still feeling grotty, cold has now gone to chest, result of lifetimes smoking and chemical weapon inhalation.
Long time since I have had pheasant, @Dovefromabove. If I was feeling better, I would love that meal.
