Help finding a tree from an episode

Hi everyone, I'm currently on a bit of a mad hunt for a tree I saw in an episode but I don't have much information to find the actual tree.

Episode wise they were visiting the garden of a gentleman who had a collection of rare trees, including a handkerchief tree, and it was definitely withing the last 2 years as I've only been watching regularly for that long.

The actual tree was tall, single trunk like a lampost with leaves from the top trailing down and coming over gras around the tree.

I believe it had silver bark and yellow leaves on the photo they showed, but my memory might have distorted that.

I've checked a lot of episodes but feeling a little hopeless in finding it so any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I wonder if it was a segment on Linn Botanic Gardens in Argyll, Scotland - featured twice this year

    from min 45

    From min 36

    Good luck with your hunt
  • I will check those out thank you.

I seem to think it wasn't there but was a man who just had a large collection of trees on his property mainly specialising in rare trees - it's really not much to go on though!

What makes it more annoying is I even searched for the tree at the time to see if it was commercially available but we didn't own the property we lived in at the time, know I own my property I really want to find it again to decide if I can grow it.

In the first segment linked there are straight eucalypts in shot.

Maybe other people will have ideas about other episodes.
  • I remember seeing the segment too. I think it aired within the last 12 months, but it might have been a repeat-airing from a previous year (something they do on GW eg they repeated a segment on roses with Chris Beardshaw). I have a feeling the garden with the trees that @jordanw130815653 is looking for was a garden somewhere in the south-west. I have a feeling it was Wiltshire, possibly Salisbury or if not,  Dorset/Devon/Ireland.

I hope that turns out to help...just going on the briefest glimmer of memory!
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
  • Just thought, @jordanw130815653, can you remember if one of the presenters visited the garden too? Could it have been Toby Buckland for instance? It might make it easier to search, for example "Toby Buckland visits a garden with a collection of unusual trees"

  • @clematisdorset thank you for confirming I wasn't imagining it!

I have a feeling it was either Adam or Toby there, but whenever I search I can't find anything relevant annoyingly!

I seem to remember Nick Bailey visiting Newby Hall earlier this year. There was an unusual collection of Cornus kousa trees if l recall correctly.
    Could it be that ?

If you searched online for the tree on a browser (Safari, Firefox etc) would the keywords  and sites checked be in the search history still?
