Wow WAMS a logistical headache for them I imagine. I certainly think that their normal delivery charge of £3.95? Wouldn’t cover that for them surely, was it Hermes? They’ve probably covered delivery in the price of the plants rather than delivery charges.
@WAMS my Ebb Tide does produce some lovely blooms when it feels like it, but it’s the atrocious ugly betty of rose bushes that regularly loses canes to yellowing/dieback. If only the bush was as fulsome and attractive of other Week’s roses like JC and Love Song. There’s a good reason I hide it behind other roses - you really aren’t missing much, honestly.
I believe DA are also preventing other growers in the EU from propagating and selling their standards, so grab any while you can folks!

It was DPD on this occasion. They use DPD for all standards apparently (which is why you can't buy standards with next-day delivery in the summer season). It was £3.95 postage, but other vendors are more generous there- e.g. Peter Beales and Sfyles both give free postage for orders of over £100.
Sounds as though you got the Boscobel standard just in the nick of the time, Jessica!
Tack, the interstem (word stolen from Nollie- hopefully I've used it correctly haha) of Harlow Carr standard measures just shy of 4ft top to bottom. I suppose it'll be 5ft - 5 ½ ft tall when the standard is fluffed out? I think my Styles one was a little taller.
I doubtless stole that word from Marlorena 😆 sounds better than ‘trunk’.
I used to think standards were a bit naff, but they are a good way of getting rose height into borders and open spaces. Probably the only way for me since so many roses burnt on metal supports this year. I’m not keen on wooden supports as sturdy ones are too dominant for my tastes and skinny ones rot eventually. Easier to replace wooden standard stakes than untangle a rose from an obelisk.

I like them... I like the excess and the OTTness of them. Here's an American lady's Love Song standard (posted from another forum with permission). Now, if I could acquire one of those beauties, my rose-buying days would be o-v-a-h, over!
@WAMS seconding Nollie, Ebb tide is not healthy, lovely colours for the few blooms you get but its dreadful for die back, black spot etc. Tempted to dig it up and pot it for a bit, see if that helps & put something else there.
@Tack oooh those look lovely standards! They had a few Harlow standards in the shop when I went & they were very elegant looking.
Im really running out of room (booo) so will content myself with Boscobel standard but now I know its unlikely replacable, I might swap it and put my Megan standard out the front & Boscobel standard in a pot in the back where Megan is? Its more exposed out the front & styles still offer Megan should the worst happen. Hulthemia might cope better exposed too. Ive got a big wooden support for both but might see if I can get a smart black wrought iron support maybe - tuteurs seem to be hit n miss? Maybe 2 of the curved drain pipe cover climbing supports?
I have removed Ebb Tide, the canes are ugly though I found it a reliable bloomer but not heat resistant.
That 2 drainpipe trellis joined is an interesing idea @Jessica. Tuteurs are so expensive or too tall ime, burying them to the correct height around the rose sounds like too much faff. I have the top of one buried in the top of Canary Bird on a stake. It is now all wonky but would be a pain to cut out. Super Excelsor weeps fine without it and my new purchases can just have a stake too.
Talking of which, it was 25 hrs between ordering and planted. Not enough time for me to decide where they are going, so in a pot for a year. Pleased that DA provided stakes and straps but the stakes are a bit bulky-looking for pots. . Princess Anne nearer the camera I can't decide whether to cut the stakes or leave them to hammer further into the ground when planted out. I'll keep an eye on chafing.
