@agnasia, I put old metal hanging baskets upside down over nepeta plants to keep the cats off the crowns - they love rolling/eating them. The metal is soon  covered once the nepeta starts to grow.
Lizzie that’s brilliant!  I love nepeta but the local cats have ruined so many of mine over the years.   I confess to placing wooden kebab skewers (pointed end up 😬) in amongst them.  It worked but as an animal lover I felt guilty so your idea has given me much hope!  Thank you 🌸

@Marlorena that was me asking the question about the new shoot:) thank you for your advice. It makes me feel sad to see such a large new shoot go… oh well!

@Tack - may I ask the size of your biggest rose pot? And how do they do in pots? I don't have space in my border but I'd like to grow a few roses in pots, but DA always recommend at least 45cm diameter/depth min. I don't want pots that big on my patios but also don't want to restrict the roses' performance. TIA.

@hupellon I do start new roses in smaller pots but by year 3 I have nearly all of them in pots 47cm in diameter and 44cm high. The pots are thin plastic (recycled!) and don't taper much so the volume is 57lts. The roses do well in pots but I do water and feed and tend to them a lot.
Thank you @CatDouch There are still a few flowering crocuses in there and the blue chionodoxia but they don't show in the photo. A few tulips still to come

Thank you @Tack re pots. Currently I have one rose in a pot - new Nye Bevan planted in Nov - in a 37cm pot. Sounds like I'll have to pot him up in a year or two. Was (rather foolishly) hoping he can stay there permanently. Need to rethink my border situation to squeeze in any future rose.
