Mayo makes it soggy as it soaks in. Butter doesn't soak in. Maybe US bread or butter is different or the unpruned vegetables might make a significant difference to the sog factor
If I'm using a soft/moist filling like cream cheese or hummous or if I'm adding ketchup, I don't bother with butter on my butties. Can't say I've noticed any difference in the sog factor.

As far as I can determine the definition of a Sandwich is any sort of food between 2 slices of bread ( first cobbled together by the Earl of Sandwich circa 1700's ). You can stuff it with any filling you fancy and no need for an Influencer to suggest something is good or bad or whether the level of "sog" matters. Some of the sandwiches you see advertised( usually involving burgers) are absolutely enormous - doubt the Earl would have been able to concentrate on his Poker whilst trying to stuff one of those down his neck It does of course help if the bread is decent rather than a lot of the sweet spongy stuff which goes by that name in many shops these days.
I was once asked in a steak diner, if I'd like grey poop on. Honestly. Apparently, it's Dijon mustard. Not quite pronounced like that, chaps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Poupon
My neighbour made me a chicken sandwich today (I was having a bad day and haden't eaten). She sliced the real butter on, minimal chicken by request and a pinch of salt on soft white pan. It was the most delicious thing I've had in ages. There's only that oul healthy brown bread in this house for mum. 🤢 She also made me a cup of tea (see above...I don't drink tea) and I swilled that down too. I swear that woman could make me eat parsnips! (Just kidding! I draw the line at parsnips...even for her!).
