  • @AnniD Got this from the Independent just now.

"The inaugural live show will be broadcast from the Strictly ballroom on Saturday 23 September, according to a post on the BBC's Shows, Tours and Take Part website, which allows fans to apply for tickets to be in the audience.

The BBC is yet to confirm an official start date for the new season of the star-studded dance competition, but the pre-recorded launch episode tends to air the week before the first live instalment."

I did have a look at the page for tickets yesterday to confirm the date of the first live show but the applications had closed and there were no dates showing. Seems like it's business as usual this year. Well, unless anyone else of national importance dies!

@star gaze lily The very first year had 8 contestants. You know that when Strictly starts, Christmas is just around the corner!

@barry island Good man 😊 I don't see why all of that stuff makes any difference. Someone I know said that having two same sex couples and the first contestant with dwarfism in the line up was too much 🤷‍♀️ They had no problem with them individually and liked their dancing but three lots of diversity in one go was apparently too much! I enjoy them trying new things and don't really get why it's such a big deal to some people.

  • The Strictly countdown has been posted so the launch is officially the 16th!
  • Soon be Christmas then.
  • @barry island I consider Strictly the countdown to Christmas 😂
  • Doesn't seem possible does it.
  • It's terrifying how fast the year goes and I swear gardening makes it go quicker because you're always thinking 6-12 months ahead.

Strictly is a good measure for the year though because of the tours. January/ February is Strictly Live although Karen and Gorka do their own tour around the same time. Giovanni tours throughout January through until April, Johannes has his tour around April/May, throughout May it's the Pro tour, Giovanni and Anton June and July then August rehearsals start for the next series of Strictly. I swear I'm not obsessed, I just follow the pros on Instagram and they post loads of stuff when they go on tour! I've never been to see any of them though the tickets are a bit pricey 😬
  • I think Bobby Brazier's probably going to do well. I don't know what his dancing skills are like but he just won the Rising Star award at the NTAs. From the audience reaction, my guess is he'll be very popular with the young female demographic. He seems like a genuinely nice guy as well so I think people will easily take to him. Unfortunately, his grandmother has surfaced and is s**t stirring already. No doubt she'll be in the tabloids every other day for the duration of his participation and will crop up on several chat shows. Thank God I don't watch them.

I watched the launch show (with a lot big of fast forwarding through the shrieks and OTT greetings from the majority of celebrities).

I think Annabel Croft and Johannes could prove to go a fair way. When he said they would make her late husband proud, l did have a bit of a lump in my throat.
As for Les Dennis and Nancy, l can't see that progressing very far. She might have to tone down her usual exuberance.
  • Haven't watched it yet, but have recorded it to whizz through some of it....just like you @AnniD 😂
