The report part of the flag option is mod reviewed @steveTu. The basic flag is supposed to be used for spam, but it's clear that groups of people are using it to remove posts they don't like, which is what has happened with @TheGreenMan 's comment, and also with another recent one. It's also happened on that so called 'joke' thread. The problem with the flag option is that we - the forum members - are monitoring the spam. That isn't actually an acceptable method. If the mods can't do it, there should be appointed mods on the forum to do it, which is what happens on other forums. There's a lot of posting done here which wouldn't be acceptable on any forum, not just a gardening one. Re the flag IDs not being visible but the like IDs are - that wasn't the case when the forum was updated. It's something that suddenly happened- can't remember when. I agree with you - they should both be the same - all visible or all hidden.
OK - it would seem then that the moderators agree that certain posts should be deleted doesn't it? I would suspect though that the moderators are just using an ...'n' flags and you're out... type rule though (so in effect it's not being moderated - given what moderate means - and are relying on the flaggers' opinion) .
Perhaps some posters misunderstnd the Flag as a sort of celebratory thing ? Bit like waving the flag at jubilees, coronations and the like ? Or even at Mr. Johnson's resignation, Mr. Trump's possible incarceration, the demise of the current government .......... add the event of your choice I have flagged the obvious Spams but have only ever Flagged and reported 1 post and that was probably a couple of years ago. However, I will admit to Flagging a few of wargarden's posts - not reported as it wasn't really necessary - just a more polite way of venting my feelings at his constant derogatory posts. Confession over As for @TheGreenMan - it would be a shame to feel driven from the forum simply by opposing viewpoints. I'd agree with others - keep posting

When there's 5 flags and the post is automatically removed @steveTu, there's a pop up/note to say it has been removed for moderation, but I don't think that any moderation or checking happens in that situation. If it did, the thread where two recent posts were removed would have been re instated as there was absolutely nothing offensive about them in any way. It's only when a post is reported that they're looked into, as far as I'm aware. I don't know the reason for that. I had to do that quite recently because a newish member contacted me, and another forum member, because of a person's behaviour on a particular thread. She was so upset by it she was considering ceasing posting, and possibly leaving, and didn't know what to do. Other posters on the thread were also upset by the comments. I contacted the mods to explain their concerns, and was reassured that the person concerned had been 'spoken to', and was thanked for informing them. If in doubt - report anything you think is offensive or inflammatory etc, and let them look into it, but make sure to give correct info and if possible, forward the messages directly, or post a link to the thread in question. I usually just start with one of the comments and say 'can you please look into this?' or similar
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think @philippasmith2 is having a joke @Busy-Lizzie - after all, when you click on the Flag option, you have a choice of Spam or Report, not Hurrah!. Can't really confuse what the button's for

This is getting truly pathetic. My post this morning has now received 4 flags. If you have a problem, put it on here, don't hide behind a flag.
folk are petty , small minded idiots who should be grateful they've nothing better to do and nothing more serious in their pathetic little lives to worry about. Cowards
